Hello everyone,
I’m asking for your timely help with a pressing matter. For years, acupuncturists of BC have been struggling to get a much needed scope update. This endeavour has led to a petition that needs 1000 signatures by April 30th. If you would like to support us, please sign the following letter as soon as you possibly can. All you need to do is fill in your name and address (so the letter is directed to your MP) and click submit. Our association would be ever grateful for your support!
The issue is - The government is amalgamating several of the boards for health practitioners. Our scope of practice has been on the table for the past 5 years without review, while other health practitioners have had their scopes broadened. Acupuncture is being included in other scopes, while acupuncturists have been held back from advancing our honed skills. We feel we are being treated unfairly and our profession is being discriminated against. When the government moves forward with the board amalgamation in the coming months, we feel this disadvantage will be magnified.
We are highly trained professionals, needles are what we do. Point injection therapy (PIT) is only one of the issues at hand, and the focus of the following letter. Acupuncturists have been safely practicing PIT in BC for approximately 20 years. I have recently been training in this fascinating branch for around 4 years. The training and certifications in BC are rigorous, and in my opinion, the best in the country. The letter focuses on the relationship between our services and opioid use, as it is the most likely topic to get the attention of an MP, but we know it is more than that. Our services can potentially help people lead the active, pain-free lives they desire, and this is why we do it.
Please help us continue to be able to grow and offer all of our skilled services well into the future.
