For 30 years, I’ve worked as a therapist with children and families in rural Alberta, learning so much about resilience and the power of stories to heal.💛

I’m now writing the books I always wished I had— stories to help kids feel seen, understood, and less alone, and to support the adults who walk with them.

My hope? To spark healing, reduce shame, and open up honest conversations—one story at a time.

Sometimes kids who have experienced tough early years or childhood trauma may struggle with feeling like they never have enough.

It could be attention, toys, time, or even food—leading to demanding behavior and a sense that nothing satisfies them. Unfortunately it can also cause people to emotionally distance themselves from the child, feeling like they are failing the child and a disappointment, leaving the child feeling more alone and confused. Just One Cookie can spark conversations about these empty feelings—are they about needing more cookies, or a moment of connection?

This beautifully illustrated story by Caroline Marion shows that healing often comes not from things, but from connection, care, and a sense of belonging.
