Every day before I leave for work, my daughter and son give me (and my husband) a toy to take with me. 🧸
Some days it’s a tiny dinosaur, sometimes a princess, sometimes a random little figurine that rides in my pocket all day.
She always says, “So you won’t forget me.”
Of course I could never forget her — but I bring it anyway, and it sits on my desk while I see patients.
To her, that toy is more than a toy. It’s connection. It’s comfort. It’s her way of staying close to mom while we’re apart.
Little rituals like this are actually powerful for child development. They help children build secure attachment, learn that goodbyes are safe, and feel confident exploring the world knowing their parent is still connected to them.
What seems small to us is huge to them.
So yes… my office has a growing collection of tiny toys.
And honestly, they might be the most important things on my desk. ❤️
