Hi, I’m Taylor 👋

I’m the Director of Operations at Branches Counselling and the person behind the emails, phone calls, and front desk hellos.

Trying somewhere new can feel intimidating, especially when it comes to counselling. I’m here to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible, whether that’s answering insurance questions, helping you find the right counsellor, or just being a calm and friendly presence to talk to on the phone.

If you’ve ever called or walked through our door, there’s a good chance we’ve already met. I’m here to help make the experience a little lighter in any way I can.

This is our space. A place where honest, hard, healing conversations happen.

A place where our therapists meet you where you’re at.

A place where you can speak the things that have been sitting heavy on your heart.

A place where you can slow down long enough to understand yourself a little more clearly.

A place where the messy, complicated parts of being human are welcomed.

Welcome here💚

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and care women bring into their families, workplaces, and communities.

But many women are quietly carrying a lot behind the scenes — responsibilities, expectations, emotional labour, and the pressure to keep everything running.

Being capable doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy.
Holding everything together can take a real toll.

Today can also be a reminder to check in — with yourself and with the women in your life. 💚

How do you know when you need help?

Let’s take sadness for example. Sadness is a normal, healthy human emotion in response to loss and difficulty. But when is sadness potentially something more?

We usually ask you what’s going on in terms of distress, frequency, and intensity with your sadness.

Distress: How upsetting is your sadness? Do you find yourself distressed by the sadness you are feeling?

Frequency: How often are you experiencing this distress? Do you find you are often upset about how sad you are?

Intensity: How much does it interfere with your day to day functioning? Is your sadness making it hard to get things done at home, work, or school?

If your sadness is distressing, frequent and/or intense, it’s worth reaching out to get some extra support💚

Functioning doesn’t mean you’re okay.

You can meet deadlines.
Reply to emails.
Make dinner.
Show up for your kids.
Smile in meetings.
And still feel exhausted.
Still feel numb.
Still feel like you’re holding your breath all day.

High-functioning distress is easy to miss, especially when you’re the reliable one. The capable one. The strong one.

Coping is not the same thing as healing. If you’ve been “managing” but not actually feeling okay, that matters.
You don’t have to completely fall apart to deserve support (but if you do that’s okay too).

We asked Martha: What do you believe helps people to make changes or heal?

“So often, the more we’re struggling, the more we focus on all the ways we should be coping better, should be more this way or less that way—and these beliefs can keep us stuck instead of helping us move forward.

I believe real change begins when we’re offered empathy and curiosity instead of judgment. When we feel seen, when our stories are heard, and when we are reminded of our strengths—even (and especially) in our hardest moments—we can begin to reconnect with ourselves. From this place, healing can happen. It’s not about fixing what’s broken, it’s about softening around what hurts, and remembering what is still whole.”

Self-compassion is hard. It’s easy to get caught up in self-critical spirals. Something that can help you reframe those thoughts when you notice them is the RAY acronym.

R: Recognize your emotions. You’re feeling bad about yourself, but what specifically do you feel? Shame? Fear? Anger?

A: Allow your emotions. Give yourself permission to have whatever emotion is at play right now. Often starts with phrases like “it’s normal to feel,” “It makes sense to feel,” “It’s okay to feel,” etc.

Y: You are human, connect your beliefs about others to yourself. Because you are a human, your beliefs about other humans apply to you too. Reminding yourself that what you believe about others also applies to you can be powerful.
