Thank you to all who joined us for a special day on June 11 to mark the 70th anniversary of LutherCare Communities providing Saskatchewan residents with the highest quality of care and support. Several events were held on site, including a pipe ceremony, a blessing for our Team Members and residents, and a sod-turning ceremony to announce that a historical marker will be placed on the site of the original home.
Starting in 1955, Lutheran Sunset Home of Saskatoon opened its doors and its heart to 58 residents. As the organization grew, the name was changed to LutherCare Communities in 1999 to reflect its growth in services and location.
LutherCare Communities President and CEO, Gabe Lafond, stated that this was an important day for our organization. “Starting off with a Pipe Ceremony is recognition that before we look forward, we must reconcile our past. We recognize that our path toward reconciliation is long, but we believe that today is an important step forward in that work.” LutherCare Board Chair Monica Kreuger remarked that “More than seventy years ago, a diverse and passionate group came together with an idea to provide high-quality care for seniors, and today, we have over 500 Team Members serving approximately 1,200 residents, with an ongoing commitment to continue to expand on our mission to provide excellence in care, shelter and support.”
