What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese exercise system that coordinates the movement of the body for health improvement, cultivating the mind through meditation and the application of force as a martial Art. Based on a sequence of 108 movements, Tai Chi is ideal for all ages and abilities. Practicing Tai Chi improves circulation, flexibility and strength. The gradual stretching and slow turning movements facilitate loosening of the joints and relaxation of tension throughout the body, allowing the free circulation of the body’s internal energies.

The benefits of Tai Chi to our health are many. This complete whole-body exercise can be practiced anywhere with no need for special equipment.

Are you a current Tai Chi practitioner? How has Tai Chi improved your health?

Practiced by millions of people over the centuries, Tai Chi has proven helpful to the health of the body. During practice, muscles and tendons are alternately stretched and relaxed, making them flexible and the joints looser. During the stretching and relaxing blood in the veins blood is being squeezed back into the heart and the looser joints will let the blood flow through without impediment. With good circulation, the body will heal and rejuvenate itself naturally. More than blood circulation is improved; the lymphatic, nervous and digestive systems can run better as well.

Physical Benefits:
• Improved flexibility, balance, immune function, cardiovascular function and motor coordination
• Reduction of pain and tension
• Better sleep patterns and increased energy

Mental Benefits:
• Reduced stress and anxiety, increased ability to relax, better concentration and focus and an enhanced sense of well-being

The Canadian Tai Chi Academy was founded
by senior students of the late Master Moy
Lin-Shin (1931-1998). The Academy’s sole
purpose is to enable others to learn the
arts taught by Mr. Moy and to enjoy the
health benefits through continuous
practice and lifelong learning in a friendly,
non-competitive environment. In July 2007
the Canadian Tai Chi Academy was
approved as a registered charity based in
Toronto, Canada dedicated to the teaching
of Chinese internal arts for health as passed
on by Master Moy.

The mission of the Canadian Tai Chi
Academy is to help people of all ages to
maintain or regain good health. The
methods we use are through the practice
and teaching of Tai Chi and other internal
arts passed on to us by Master Moy.
