I was rarely a napper - always on the go - drove my family crazy. I’ve always struggled with sleep.
I came across this photo, from my babysitter’s house.
I must have been sooo tired. She probably captured the moment because it was unusual.
I’m feeling this today, this Sunday, this winter.
Rest is important, yet counter intuitive.
Rest is productive.
Wishing you some rest, even for a few minutes. 💛

The power of kindness. 🦋

My students and I walked around the perimeter of the hospital today cheering and waving at hospital staff, with “don’t give up” and “thank you” posters.

We saw little arms waving back at us from random hospital windows, on varying floors, and masked nurses putting their hands on their hearts to say thank you to us from afar.

We had a few large groups of doctors and nurses come outside to personally say thank you.

They’re exhausted.

They said it meant the world to them and they needed it more than we’d ever know.

Let’s cheer them on. Let’s cheer each other on.

The power of kindness. 🦋

My students and I walked around the perimeter of the hospital today cheering and waving at hospital staff, with “don’t give up” and “thank you” posters.

This orchid took two years to bloom. I’d given up on it many times. It looked dead. There was a tiny bit of green, but it looked hopeless. I had every intention of tossing it into the compost. I’ve done it before.
Then, one day I had an inkling to put this one in the basement window. I added it to my responsibility list, but as low commitment. I watered it when I thought of it. I checked in occasionally while getting ready for work. I gave it some love and attention, but not much. Just enough for it to know I’d be there occasionally to check in and water it (and I’d read somewhere years ago that orchids don’t need a lot of attention).
And, here it is. When I first saw the bloom I danced around the room. I felt joy.
This orchid has taught me so much... namely slowing down and not giving up.
