⚠️ Upgrades at Mel Lloyd Centre ⚠️

As some of you may already be aware, the Mel Lloyd Centre is currently undergoing necessary upgrades. While these improvements are essential, they have resulted in some disruptions.

Dufferin County is striving to minimize the impact of these upgrades, but some inconvenience is unavoidable.

Yesterday, we experienced a power outage affecting our server, which disrupted our phone system, internet, and EMR. These issues have been resolved, but further challenges persist. Today, we will lose access to running water 💦 at 3 PM, necessitating the early closure of the clinic.

On behalf of SCFH, DAFHT, and Dufferin County, we sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the safety of the patients and our staff, Shelburne Centre for Health will be closed today due to inclement weather. If you had an appointment booked today, please call back during regular business hours tomorrow or visit the online booking page to reschedule at your earliest convenience.

We are proud to run a food drive to support the local community in Shelburne.

For the month of November, a donation box for non-perishable food items has been set up in the waiting room of the clinic.

Please support those in need and bring a non-perishable item to your next clinic visit if you can. All items collected will be donated to the SHEPHERD’S CUPBOARD FOOD BANK.

Let’s make a difference this holiday season. To make your generous donation go further, all donations will be matched in value by the clinic.

🧡National Truth and Reconciliation Day🧡

Beginning in the 19th century, more than 150,000 Indigenous children were separated from their families and communities and sent to church-run residential schools, where abuse, malnutrition and inadequate health care were rampant.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission found the school system, which operated for more than 150 years, was a central element of a state-backed policy that attempted cultural genocide.

Now you must start by learning the truth, reflecting on that truth and never forgetting that truth. Reconciliation starts with the truth. 🧡

The following is a statement made by Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict 🔆

Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict says the lasting intergenerational impacts of the schools “must never be forgotten.”

“Our unique Nations and cultures exist today because survivors of the residential school system fought to keep them alive — often in the face of serious personal harm,” Abrams said in a statement.
“They passed on the traditions, languages and teachings these institutions sought to destroy so that all of us today know who we are, where we come from and how we got here.”
