A moment from the Conference, earlier in the week, that stayed with me 💛

Not from the stage
From the room

We were talking about Care Partner strain… and you could feel it land
That quiet “this is us too” feeling

Because it is

Care Partners are holding so much together behind the scenes
And that stress does not stay at home
It shows up everywhere

Today, we named it
And talked about what changes when we start working with Care Partners, not around them

That is where things begin to shift

This is how change starts 🤍

The Conversation That Brings Peace of Mind!

Today is Advance Care Planning Day. A reminder to pause and think about what matters most when it comes to your future care.

Advance care planning is not always an easy conversation, but it is one of the most important ones.

If something unexpected happened and you could not speak for yourself, would your loved ones truly know your wishes?

Taking time now to reflect, have conversations, and document your preferences can ease stress for your family and ensure your care aligns with what matters most to you.

At Nana’s Navigator, we encourage starting these conversations early, in a way that feels comfortable and supported.

There are helpful tools, guides, and workshops available to walk you through it step by step. You can explore more here:

This one is for you.

The care partner who woke up tired but showed up anyway. Who answered the call, made the appointment, held the hand, and found a way to keep going even on the hard days.

On World Health Day, we want to celebrate your strength and gently remind you of something important: your health matters, too. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and you deserve the same care and compassion you so freely give to others.

Take a moment today to check in with yourself.

Today, on April 7th, we join the country in recognizing National Caregiver Day—a day dedicated to honoring the compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication of caregivers, especially unpaid family and friend caregivers. These incredible individuals give their time, energy, and love without expectation of reward, supporting their loved ones every day with patience, care, and selflessness.

This year holds extra significance for us at Caregivers Alberta, as we celebrate 25 years of standing alongside caregivers across the province. For a quarter of a century, we’ve provided resources, guidance, and a supportive community to those who give so much of themselves. Over these 25 years, we’ve witnessed countless unpaid caregivers face challenges with courage, adapt with resilience, and show acts of kindness that inspire everyone around them.

On this National Caregiver Day, we want to pause and say thank you—to every unpaid family and friend caregiver who has touched a life, to every supporter who has joined us on this journey, and to our incredible community that makes our work possible. Your dedication fuels our purpose every single day, and we are honored to celebrate this important milestone with you.

Caregiving touches so many lives — and conversations like this matter. 💛

We’re glad to share the upcoming National Caregiver Day Symposium, hosted by Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence in partnership with Canadian Home Care Association.

This is a great opportunity to hear from caregivers, healthcare leaders, and researchers, and be part of important conversations around strengthening support for caregivers across Canada.

The event is available both in-person and virtually, and free for caregivers.

Today, on National Caregivers Day, we recognize and celebrate the compassion, dedication, and quiet strength of caregivers in our community.
At Sage, we know that caregiving doesn’t have an age limit. Many older adults are caregivers themselves—supporting spouses, friends, neighbours, and even adult children. Their care often goes unseen, but its impact is profound.
Caregiving can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be challenging. That’s why it’s so important to ensure caregivers feel supported, connected, and valued.
To all caregivers—especially the seniors among them—thank you. Your kindness and commitment make our community stronger every day.

If you’re a caregiver in the Edmonton area, here are some helpful local supports and resources:
*Caregivers Alberta — Provincial support, education, networking, and advocacy for unpaid caregivers. Offer one on one coaching, resource finding, resource navigation, and connection to other caregivers across Alberta.
*In home care support services (for respite resources for caregivers who might need a break or assistance with daily tasks): see the Help at Home section -> Home Care Agencies in Sage’s Directory of Senior Services.
*211 Senior Information Line — Call 211 (press 2) for community support navigation, referrals and help accessing services.
