Are you where you want to be in life?

That can be a hard question to answer, but it is ok if the answer is no.

There is always room to improve and places for progress to be made in life for all of us.

Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake one of the services we provide in our program is called Case Management, also referred to as Employment Readiness.

This is a process of helping people understand where they are at, figuring out where they want to go and more importantly, helping them develop the skills, mindset and resources for how they are going to get there.

We want each person who walks through our doors to be a completely different person at the end of six months when they walk out of them.

We know this is possible and we believe that if someone is willing to do the work and give their best efforts through our program, amazing transformation can take place.

"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." - John 10:10

There is no question that we are engaged in spiritual warfare while we are on this earth, some people have experienced it, some have not, but the bible tells us very clearly that:

"we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." - Ephesians 6: 12

We are warned time and time again there there is in fact an enemy that exists to wreak havoc against us.

"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."
- 1 Peter 5:8

It can be a scary and unsettling thing to be subjected to this spiritual warfare, it can be daunting and discouraging to see the evil in this world or to have experienced it directly in this life.

Just as the bible warns us against this darkness and evil, it also offers hope and encouragement!

"But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one." - 2 Thessalonians 3:3

There is an antithesis to this evil, there is a light to the darkness, there is an antidote to this brokenness and hopelessness and his name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake we have all experienced the incredible, majestic and matchless power of Jesus. We have seen the biblical principles and teachings change our lives. We have received the good news of the Gospel that has provided us an everlasting joy that this would could never steal.

We want to share these teachings and this good news with as many people as we can.

All though we are a Christian based organization, our program is open to all people, there is no requirement to adopt this faith or any prerequisite to have a particular world view. We welcome adults of all backgrounds to join our program.

We know that Jesus has changed our lives and if he has for us, we know he can for you as well.

Please check out our website to learn more and if your interested in signing up for our day program please contact us through Facebook or through our email: Info@risingabovesl.com

The path of recovery is a very hard journey, it may very well be the hardest thing that someone does in their entire life.

Here at Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake, we use a lot of different methods to help us achieve our mission of helping people overcome addiction, break cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

We believe in and support the use of the twelve steps that are used in both AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous).

1) We admitted that we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.

2)We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3)We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4)We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5)We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6)We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7)We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8)We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9)We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10)We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11)We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12)Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Even If you don't struggle with addiction, implementing these steps and working through them will absolutely have a positive impact on anyones life.

If you are struggling with addiction, going through these steps and immersing yourself in a recovery community could literally save your life.

As we get closer to opening our day program we just want to remind everyone that we exist to compliment and not compete with other mental health and addiction resources in this community.

We believe the more resources and healthy therapeutic outlets someone has available, the better off they will be and the higher the chance of someone being able to get and stay sober.

We encourage our participants to use any and all resources that are available to them, especially the local NA & AA programs.

We represent one option of recovery, not the only option. A community that works together, is much stronger and effective to helping each other thrive and helping those that are struggling with addiction to truly recover and get their life back on track.

We look forward to opening our doors and serving this great community soon!

Addiction is not the problem, it is the attempted solution to the problem.

The problem is unresolved trauma.

Trauma is a complex issue that can happen in many ways, most people are dealing with some level of unresolved trauma and it is having a negative effect on life in some way.

Many people turn to a type of addiction to help cope with the internal pain and struggles that come from unresolved trauma, the addiction can help sooth the pain and create temporary relief but it will never help a person truly heal.

Gabor Mate said that there are two types of trauma that can take place.

1) Things that happen that should not (T)
2) Things that don't happen that should (t)

This could also be known as big "T" Trauma or small "t" trauma.

Some examples of big "T" Trauma are:
• Physical abuse
• Sexual abuse
• Emotional abuse
• Verbal humiliation
• Exposure to violence
• Spiritual manipulation
• Bullying

Some examples of small "t" trauma are:
• Lack of affection
• Lack of protection
• Lack of affirmation
• Emotional neglect
• Absence of a parent
• Lack of safe attachment

We all have essential core needs:
1. Safety
2. Love and affection
3. Protection
4. Value and affirmation
5. Belonging
6. Guidance
7. Consistency

When these needs don't get met, it could lead to small "t" trauma and can end up having a very negative effect on our wellbeing later on in life even if it didn't seem like a big deal at the time or pails in comparison to some of the major big "T" Trauma that we see others experience.

When trauma occurs in our life, the enemy will insert lies into our hearts and minds that will cause us to believe things about ourselves that are very destructive and harmful and keep us trapped in vicious cycles of defeat.

This is where Rising Above Ministries Slave Lake comes in.

We are a Christian organization and we are opening up a six month day program in Slave Lake AB, that focuses on helping people overcome addiction, break free from cycles of defeat and find hope beyond brokenness.

We will be offering:
- Life Skills
- Case Management
- Inner Healing

all designed to help people understand and truly heal from the various forms of trauma that they experienced in life.

If you are interested in supporting our mission and helping loved ones and members of this community get and stay sober we encourage you to reach out.
