Morning routines can be challanging if you are waking up with stiff and achey joints. Start with adding movement into your routine to help your body move out of stiffness and into a little more ease.

Sun Salutations could be a good way to start your day with movement. You can add props like a block or two for the lower poses, add a wall or chair for the standing poses, to make the sequence more at ease.

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), is a popular pose in many yoga classes. When in this pose it can feel so good; opening, freeing of the neck, shoulders and back.

At times you may notice when in this pose you feel sore, uncomfortable in neck and shoulders, even in arms and wrists. A not so nice feeling I am sure. πŸ₯Ί

The question should then be, "should I be doing this pose if I feel this way when in it?" You will have to decide what the answer is, but in keeping with the 'feeling good' when in a yoga pose, you may decide no Down Dog, for awhile at least. Perhaps you first really connect into the neck and shoulders and work on them feeling good, being strong and solid, before putting them in a weight bearing pose like Downward Dog.

Yoga should make you feel at ease in posture and if you don't maybe it is time to ask why.

Meet Renee, a Yogini from the heart

Renee is a compassionate, gentle Yogini who teaches from her heart. This shows through her teachings of Beginner Yoga. In her class you will learn in a gentle, mindful way through the use of props, breath work, basic postures and discussion. She teaches Gentle, Beginner, Intermediate and One on One Yoga in a studio & outdoor settings located in Newboro, Inverary, Opinicon Road and Kingston.
