Meet Hend Elbanna from Egypt, an MSc student in Clinical Epidemiology at Memorial, whose research bridges global health challenges with real human impact. Her work examines how COVID-19 influenced lower limb amputation rates among people living with diabetes, while also improving the methods researchers use to study diabetic care.
Along her journey, Hend has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including The Shree Mulay Community Health Graduate Student Award, The Bautista Graduate Bursary in Medicine, and the CAN-TAP-TALENT CTTP Studentship/Fellowship Award, sponsored by CIHR and NL Health Services.
Looking ahead, Hend hopes to continue her research through a PhD and ultimately become a university professor, contributing to public health, epidemiology, and the next generation of students.
“Even if your journey includes pauses or detours, you can still reach your goals with hard work and the right support.” - Hend Elbanna
