One of the most ironic things about working in the wellness industry is telling everyone to get off their phones while promoting wellness services and products on social media!! HAHAH đ
However, while I think it would be impossible to get off our phones altogether at this point, I do think itâs important to put some restrictions around it.
I switch to airplane mode an hour before bed every night. I keep my phone away from me when I am reading a book or watching a TV show that I like so I canât just accidentally pick it up and start using my phone. I put it on focus mode when Iâm doing deep work so that I canât get distracted by pinging (you can set priority people to still ping) and I generally keep it in my bag while I am working rather than out on my desk/coffee shop table!
These things have really helped me in my health journey, I sleep better, I donât get FOMO and I definitely have less dopamine hits!
You donât have to do all these things at once - maybe just start with one thing and see how you feel after. There are countless apps that make you more thoughtful about the scrolling now too - so try one of those, or just simply put your phone in another room - and keep track of how many times you reach for it!
