Sometimes the holidays don’t unfold the way we imagined. Emotions run high, expectations clash, and misunderstandings sneak in. Even so, there’s still meaning here — in pausing, breathing, and choosing compassion over control. Every season teaches us something, even the messy ones. You ever notice how sometimes we hold onto old versions of ourselves… even the ones we worked so hard to outgrow?

The habits we changed. The reactions we healed. The beliefs we tore down and rebuilt.
And yet, a part of us still looks back and feels ashamed, shocked even, that we were ever that person.

Lately I’ve been sitting with that.
Wondering why it can feel so hard to fully step into who I am now — someone I’m actually proud of. Someone who put in the work. Someone who spent a lot of nights digging deep, trying to understand the “why.”

Why I was short with my kids at times. Why I hurt someone who cared about me amd deserved the same back. Why I made choices that don’t line up with the man I am today.

And I think sometimes we hold on because of guilt. Like we don’t deserve the peace we’ve worked for, because of the mistakes we made before we knew better.

But the truth is — growth is the apology.
Changed behavior is the proof.
And letting yourself move forward doesn’t erase the past… it just means you’re finally learning from it.

We grow.
We shift.
We unlearn.
We become better.

And at some point, we have to allow ourselves to accept that the new version of us is real — and that we deserve to live in it.
