David’s story is one that truly moved us.
From uncertainty to confidence — he’s now living independently and thriving.
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. 💛
👉 Read the full story below: “How David Found His Independence”
It's simple and huge all at the same time - learning the three parts of words. 😍☺️
The three parts of a word: why neurodivergent thinkers process reading differently
Every word has three essential components that readers must integrate:
1️⃣ MEANING: What the word represents conceptually
2️⃣ SPELLING: How the word appears visually on the page
3️⃣ SOUND: How the word is pronounced audibly
For neurotypical readers, these three components connect automatically and simultaneously. When they see the word "horse," they instantly recognize the spelling, connect it to the sound /h-o-r-s-e/, and understand the meaning—all in one seamless process.
But for many dyslexic and neurodivergent thinkers, these connections work differently:
They often think primarily in PICTURES, not words
Their brains excel at grasping MEANING (often seeing rich, multidimensional concepts)
But the connections to SPELLING and SOUND can become disconnected or confused
This explains why a highly intelligent person can understand complex concepts yet struggle with basic reading. It's not an intelligence issue—it's a processing difference.
Traditional reading methods focus heavily on phonics (the sound component), which often works against the natural strengths of visual-spatial thinkers.
The Davis Method takes a different approach by using clay modeling to help create concrete, multisensory connections between all three components—building on visual strengths rather than fighting against them.
The result? Often remarkable breakthroughs where traditional methods have failed.
Davis® Workshops and Programs weren’t created in a traditional classrooms or research labs. They emerged from the lived experience of Ronald Dell Davis - a man diagnosed with severe autism and dyslexia who completely transformed our understanding of neurodivergent minds.
In 1942, doctors gave Ron's mother devastating news: her son would "never learn, speak, or achieve beyond what a chimpanzee could." Yet at age nine, Ron suddenly became aware of the world around him, beginning an extraordinary developmental journey.
Unable to learn through traditional methods, young Ron made a profound discovery in his backyard. By mixing dirt with water to create clay, he began modeling letters and objects - creating a multi-sensory bridge to understanding that traditional education couldn't provide.
This child who was labeled "uneducable" tested with an IQ of 137 at age 17 - genius level! By 27, it had risen to an extraordinary 169.
When Ron finally discovered how to overcome his perceptual challenges at age 38, he dedicated his life to helping others. The same clay modeling techniques that helped him make sense of the world as a child became the foundation of the Davis® Method.
What makes our approaches truly unique? It was developed by someone who understood neurodivergence from the inside out - who lived through the challenges and transformed them into breakthrough insights that continue to change lives today.
Do you know anyone who struggles with handwriting. Have you ever wondered why?
✍️ Handwriting struggles? It might be dysgraphia, not laziness.
Dysgraphia affects fine motor skills, making writing physically painful and mentally exhausting. Signs include:
Illegible handwriting despite effort
Extreme fatigue after writing tasks
Good verbal skills but poor written expression
Avoiding writing activities
Davis solutions for dysgraphia:
🖊️ Clay work to strengthen fine motor skills
🖊️ Alternative expression methods
🖊️ Proper pencil grip techniques
🖊️ Breaking writing into manageable steps
Why do we use clay to master letters and punctuation? Because it works WITH visual learners, not against them. 🧠✨
When children can touch, mold, and see letters in 3D, abstract symbols become concrete understanding. That's the Davis Method difference.
Watch what happens when learning becomes hands-on instead of frustrating.

🌟 FACILITATOR FRIDAY
Meet Stacey Smith from Calgary, Alberta!
Stacey's Davis journey began 25 years ago when she witnessed a family member's transformation. As an elementary teacher, she saw students struggling with traditional methods and knew there had to be a better way.
In 2000, Stacey and her husband left the public school system to establish Rocky Point Academy in Calgary - a learning center dedicated to empowering neurodivergent individuals.
Stacey became a Davis Facilitator in 2002 after seeing how the methods transformed both her family and students.
What makes Stacey special: She works with individuals who feel frustrated or stuck, helping them realize their goals are more attainable than they thought. Her experience spans all Davis programs for all ages.
Serving Calgary, AB (travels to clients, online sessions available)
Real results speak volumes: Tony jumped from 2nd grade reading level to 4.5 grade level in just 5 days. His mom Cherri wrote: "We couldn't believe it. 2½ grade levels in 5 days."
Another parent shared about Ryan: "He was getting N's for not achieving grade level. This year he's getting B's and C's, even 3 A's! He now looks forward to writing tests!"
Stacey's goal with every client: help them feel unique, valued, and capable while providing tools no one can take away.

In January of 2018 Nadine completed The Davis® Dyslexia Correction program (www.dyslexia.com) which changed her life forever. Nadine had grown up suffering with undiagnosed ADHD and Dyslexia (diagnosis was not easy to come by in the 1970s). Nadine grew up as a busy multi-tasker who struggled to “sit still and pay attention”. As a young child and through most of her adulthood, Nadine’s ‘normal’ was a challenge compared to others. Like many others she grew up in a school system that was not set up for students with different learning styles and different needs. As a student who learned and explored differently than her peers, Nadine was left feeling like an outsider.
In 2017 Nadine was accepted to King’s University College in London, Ontario for Thanatology (Loss, grief, and bereavement studies). She once again found herself struggling with her studies. Nadine was 47 years old at the time and now understood that she had Dyslexia and ADHD, but understanding her stumbling blocks and overcoming them were two very different things. Emotionally and academically struggling, Nadine turned to “The Gift of Dyslexia” by Ron Davis (audiobook) for inspiration and a different perspective.
Nadine’s research at this time lead her to The Davis® Dyslexia Correction program where she was guided through the 30-hour program by Tracy (her Davis facilitator). Since completing the program Nadine’s confidence has grown every single day. She can read out loud in front of an audience (something she would not have attempted previously), as well as read and understand what she is reading. She can also handle the alphabet forwards and backwards. With the help of The Davis® Dyslexia Correction program Nadine was able to learn new skills and knowledge, which allowed her to “take responsibility for [her] learning disability”.
Nadine has made it her personal mission to help others avoid the same frustrations and feelings of “otherness” that plagued her through much of her life. She wants to bring a level of understanding and awareness regarding different learning needs and the impact learning disabilities can have. Nadine has been able to discover that her ADHD and dyslexia are “[her] gift”, rather than a shortcoming, and she wants to help others have that same moment of discovery. It is her goal to offer an experience, like the one she had with The Davis® Dyslexia Correction program, to students and families that will help them find acceptance, as well as skills and tools to overcome any stumbling points they may experience. This lead to the creation of Picture Perfect Learning Solutions, Nadine’s personal company that will help people just like her to reach their full potential.
