Thinking about bedsharing? The Safe Sleep 7 outlines key factors that help reduce major SIDS and suffocation risks when sharing sleep with your baby.

✅ If you are:
1️⃣ A nonsmoking household
2️⃣ Sober and unimpaired
3️⃣ Exclusively breastfeeding day & night

✅ And your baby is:
4️⃣ Healthy and full-term
5️⃣ Sleeping on their back
6️⃣ Lightly dressed (not swaddled)
7️⃣ On a firm, safe surface (no fluffy blankets, pillows, or toys)

…then you have removed all major SIDS and suffocation risks and can safely practice responsive nighttime parenting. 🌙

Check back tomorrow as we discuss Safe Sleep Surfaces!

Women shouldn’t require superpowers to juggle breastfeeding and work.

All moms everywhere, no matter their work or contract type, should have:
🧸 At least 18 weeks, preferably 6 months or more, of paid maternity leave
🧸 Paid time off for breastfeeding or expressing milk upon returning to work
🧸 Flexible return-to-work options

Let’s make breastfeeding and work, work!

The cervix will open when the baby is ready to go through it! Want to learn more? Sign up for my class at Stratford Chiropractic & Wellness Centre this January! PM me for details.

Yes! I hear this so much especially from women with previous inductions in the hospital or csection, that their cervix just wouldn’t dilate past ____ cm. They feel defeated as if their bodies are broken, that’s what this kind of language teaches women. It’s not true at all except in very rare cases the issue is not the cervix but the baby’s position!

“So much of our language around birth uses words and concepts that are shaming and judging as of the body is defective or not working. What if we enter into a relationship with curiosity and presence instead of judgement?

When we start with curiosity and validation of the position of the baby, the hormones, the contraction pattern as messenger suddenly we have more resources as birth workers. As we become familiar with anatomy and physiology or even about the nervous system pacing we open a whole different set of resources. We enter a different paradigm around birth. ~Nicole Morales”

It's the holidays! And some of you may want to imbibe as you celebrate. I think it's good to remember that breastfeeding women historically have always had alcohol in their diet. The important thing is not to drink to excess and to designate someone to care for your baby. And also to remember not to lay down with your baby after you've been drinking.

Take a look at these guidelines below. You don't have to pump-and-dump and you don't have to avoid alcohol altogether. Enjoy your celebrations!

🍷 Alcohol and Breastfeeding: What You Need to Know 🍷

Curious about how alcohol consumption affects breastfeeding? Here's some essential information:

⚫Alcohol Transfer: When you drink, alcohol passes quickly from your bloodstream into your breast milk. The concentration in your milk mirrors your blood alcohol level.
⚫Timing Matters: To minimize your baby's exposure, consider breastfeeding right before consuming alcohol. This allows time for the alcohol to metabolize before the next feeding.
⚫Moderation is Key: Occasional drinking hasn't been shown to harm nursing babies. However, heavy drinking can impair your ability to care for your baby and may affect their sleep and development.
⚫Safety Tips:
⭐Have a sober adult present to care for your baby if you've consumed alcohol.
⭐Avoid bed-sharing for 24 hours after drinking to reduce the risk of smothering.
⭐Eating while drinking can reduce the amount of alcohol absorbed into your bloodstream.
⭐Remember, "pumping and dumping" doesn't speed up the elimination of alcohol from your system. Time is the only factor that reduces alcohol levels in your blood and milk.

Here's a great blog post about nutrition and your healthy pregnancy. Increase your protein, eat the rainbow, salt your food, and more!

Fisher-Price Recalls More than 2 Million Snuga Infant Swings Due to Suffocation Hazard After 5 Deaths Reported

Hazard:
The swing should never be used for sleep and bedding materials should never be added to it. If the product is used for sleep or bedding material is added, the headrest and body support insert on the seat pad can increase the risk of suffocation.

Remedy:
Consumers should immediately remove both the headrest (by cutting the tether) and the body support insert from the seat pad before continuing to use the swing. Fisher-Price will provide a $25 refund to consumers who remove and destroy the headrest and body support insert. Instructions can be found at www.service.mattel.com.

Units:
Approximately 2.1 million swings were sold in the United States, about 99,000 swings were sold in Canada and about 500 swings were sold in Mexico.
