My 5 reasons why taking the leap to open my own hygiene practice was worth it 🦷✨
1️⃣ ɪɴᴅᴇᴘᴇɴᴅᴇɴᴄᴇ - Being my own boss and having full control over my schedule has been incredibly empowering. It allows me to create a patient experience that truly reflects my values and philosophy of care—rather than trying to fit into someone else’s model.
Stepping away from traditional private practice has given me the opportunity to break away from the same old cookie-cutter approach so many offices follow. Out with the old, in with the new! I want to make dentistry feel fun, modern and exciting again!
2️⃣ ǫᴜᴀʟɪᴛʏ ᴏᴠᴇʀ ǫᴜᴀɴᴛɪᴛʏ - I wanted to move away from rushed appointments and strict timelines. By designing appointment times around each patient’s specific needs, I’m able to provide a more thoughtful, personalized experience.
Patients also benefit from seeing the same hygienist consistently, instead of feeling like they’re being shuffled from provider to provider.
3️⃣ ᴀ sᴛʀᴏɴɢᴇʀ ғᴏᴄᴜs ᴏɴ ᴘʀᴇᴠᴇɴᴛɪᴏɴ - Prevention is the foundation of oral health. Having more time with patients allows me to focus on education—discussing the oral–systemic connection, recommending healthier day-to-day product choices, and helping patients understand how small changes can make a big impact on overall health.
4️⃣ ɪᴍᴘʀᴏᴠɪɴɢ ᴀᴄᴄᴇss ᴛᴏ ᴄᴀʀe - Many dental offices are booked months in advance, which can leave patients feeling discouraged. Opening my own clinic helps reduce wait times and provides another option for people in the community who want to stay on top of their oral health.
5️⃣ ɢɪᴠɪɴɢ ʙᴀᴄᴋ ᴛʜʀᴏᴜɢʜ ᴠᴏʟᴜɴᴛᴇᴇʀɪɴɢ - Owning my own practice gives me the flexibility to dedicate time to volunteer work, community programs, and events focused on improving oral health within our community.
Taking this leap wasn’t easy—but building a practice centered on prevention, patient experience and community care has made it completely worth it. 🤍
