Got some strength training in this morning!

Strength training is the best style of exercise for supporting bone mineral density and maintaining muscle mass as we age! Not to mention it also improves insulin sensitivity and gives you a blast of those feel good endorphins!

And isn’t the overall goal to not rot away as we age so we can all be badass grannies?! 💪🏻

How are you moving your body today?! ✌🏻

✨SOILER ALERT - YOUR PERIOD TRACKING APP HAS NO IDEA WHEN YOU OVULATE✨

Woah - sorry about the yelling there but damn, it needed to be said.

Period tracking apps are awesome for so many reasons BUT they cannot accurately tell you when you are ovulating.

Ovulation *generally* happens at the mid point of your cycle. But a regular cycle can range anywhere form 26-32 days - so you do not really know the midpoint of that cycle until you have some hindsight when it ends. And then even so, you don't always ovulate exactly at the midpoint.

Moral of the story - you cannot rely on your app to track your ovulation because it's prediction can be wayyyy off. You need to tune into your body and learn ovulation clues such as basal body temperature changes, changes in cervical mucous, or objectively testing for ovulation.

My favourite way to accurately track ovulation is to TEST. I always recommend products - they are Canadian, environmentally friendly and very cost effective compared to other brands. Interested in trying their products? I’ll be sharing a discount code with my email list later this week. If you’d like to be added to my email list - shoot me a DM! 💌

And if you’d like to learn more about accurately tracking ovulation for any reason (pre conception care, fertility, contraception purposes, etc), set up and appointment and we can go through all the tips and tricks! ✌🏻

I recently re watched the entire S*x and the City series and lemme tell ya …. this tracks 😂

The four phases of the menstrual cycle laid out pretty well!

I’m dying to know - which s*x and the city character do you most identify your with?! ✌🏻

I was chatting with a colleague of mine yesterday and we were discussing the impacts that social media has on our patients, and admittedly, on ourselves as well.

We have heard it all before - social media leads to the comparison game - which can result in us feelin rather crappy about ourselves, our circumstances, our job, our houses, etc etc.

Whenever I chat with patients about their social media habits I often hear the response "ya but I just mindlessly scroll".

You may just be mindlessly scrolling - but you are also subconsciously absorbing.

Social media can be a great place to get inspired, connect with others, learn about interesting topics, and express yourself. But is can also be a black hole that leads to negative impacts on mental health.

So here's a reminder to check in with yourself about your social media habits. How do you feel after spending time online? What sort of accounts are you following? Are they in line with your goals and values? Do they leave you feeling inspired? Or are you left feeling drained and down?

Because whether we think we are mindlessly scrolling or not - your mind is subconscious still absorbing. ✌🏻

"I had bloodwork done recently and everything was normal..."

Many of my patients make this statement in my office and if you are already a patient of mine you know that I am not satisfied by this statement and here's why....

1️⃣ What was actually tested? "Bloodwork" is a general term, it does not tell me exactly what was ordered.... what exactly was tested? There are hundreds of different biomedical markers that can be tested from your blood. It is crucial to make sure that the tests that are most applicable to your case were actually in fact tested.

2️⃣ What were your exact results? There are "normal ranges", which indicate if you are in a diseased state or not. And then there are "optimal ranges" that give us a better picture on WHY you may be feeling the way you're feeling. We are not settling for mediocre - we want you feeling your best.

3️⃣ When was the testing completed? There are certain markers that need to be tested at specific times of the day, a certain day of your cycle, or in a fasted state otherwise they are rendered inaccurate.

If you have had bloodwork done recently - bring a copy to your appointment and we will deep dive into the nitty gritty details of it. We may even order some more to fill in any gaps of info we need to ensure you are THRIVING and not just SURVIVING. ✌🏻

Hear me out....

When babies are crying or irritable or fussy - what are the first things we check? Are they hungry? Thirsty? Tired? Upset stomach? Or did something happen to upset them? Usually one of these five things is the culprit.

The same thing rings true as adults.... when a patient enters my office, the first things I assess are their foundational elements of health...

➖ Hydration
➖ Appropriate and consistent fueling of the body
➖ Sleep
➖ Digestion function
➖ Stress

If any of these elements are out of whack - then why do we expect ourselves to still feel our best and function optimally?

After all - we are all just a bunch of big babies.

Need help correcting any of these areas? Let's chat. ✌🏻

ARE YOU DUE FOR A FOLLOW UP?

Shout out to all my current patients... are you overdue for a follow up?!

With summer quickly approaching (thank heavens), which usually brings a change in routine and a bluster of activity... so now if a perfect time to book your follow up in to get you all set up for success!

Follow ups are crucial for the success of you reaching your health goals. They are an opportunity to celebrate the steps you have taken in the right direction and troubleshoot any issues you may be having. Change is hard, and it does not happen overnight. Part of my job is to help determine ways to make change easier to incorporate into your life in order to establish lifelong change.

If any of the following apply to you, then you need to book a follow up ASAP...
➖ a new health concern has come up and needs to be addressed
➖ we need touch base about your current treatment plan and trouble shoot any issues you may be having
➖ you have not had bloodwork done in over a year
➖ we have not had a visit in the last 6 months
➖ you need a friendly dose of motivation to get back on track

Follow ups are essential for your progress. So with that being said – I’ll see you soon.✌🏻

Ahhhhh the Labour Day long weekend.... does anyone else feel like September feels like a second New Years?!

After chatting with so many of my patients this week about the upcoming change of routine... everyone seems to be experiencing ALL the emotions. All of which are valid.

Let's face it - we are all feeling a little burnt out and the majority of us are a big ball of emotions right now - which often leads us to be a little more sensitive and reactive than usual (which is a totally normal human response).

BUT let's always remember to approach things with kindness and compassion. Be kind to others and be kind to yourself.

Sending everyone all the good vibes. Deep breath. You got this! If you need support during this time, reach out, I got you.

How are you feeling going into the long weekend? A, B, C or D? Let me know in the comments below! ✌🏻
