On December 18, 2018 I was hours away from losing my life to Toxic Shock Syndrome from a deadly sepsis infection.
Fortunately, Peace Arch Hospital saved my life, though, more often than not, many lives are claimed from TSS.
After a very traumatic day in the ER, I spent an additional 5 days in the Intensive Care Unit at Peace Arch Hospital, and only made it back home, barely stable, a few days before Christmas.
Of the time spent in the ICU, I could only think about making it from one minute to the next, and nothing mattered more to me than seeing my family.
When I finally got home, I couldn't sit or stand for more than a minute, I couldn't look at any screens, I couldn't feed myself, I couldn't shower myself, I needed help walking. I couldn't converse without experiencing pain. My life was completely shaken.
Every year, I will continue to share my story so that I can continue to spread greater awareness about the risks and symptoms of TSS, encourage women to listen to their bodies, and to inspire women to choose more natural and sustainable feminine hygiene products.
Please read and educate yourself about the health risks of Toxic Shock Syndrome (particularly from the use of conventional tampons) and continue to share knowledge about TSS with your loved ones.
I'll be posting more here soon.
