Stronger, longer, thicker hair! Platelet rich plasma or PRP is a treatment that stimulates weakened hair follicles.

The platelets and growth factors help to regenerate cell growth and increase the blood supply to the hair follicle. Three to four initial treatments are recommended 4-6 weeks apart. Patients begin to see change with their second session. Maintenance treatments are required at 6-12 months depending on the patient.

A little recap about myself. I’ve been a medical aesthetic injector for 20 years and started my journey in aesthetics back in 1998 working for the pioneers of Botox, Dr. Jean and Alistair Carruthers. I feel very blessed to have been exposed to this new medical field in the very early days of Botox and dermal fillers. At that time there were no conferences, very little in the way of trainings, and limited research articles. There also were a lot of odd faces walking around with poor injection outcomes. Thank goodness so much has changed! Now we have thousands of research articles and very skilled trainers who focus on safety and natural outcomes. Great work is subtle and undetectable to the average person. I am constantly reading, learning and attending conferences and strive to be the best provider I can be to my patients. I work in two clinics, one on the North Shore at North Shore Plastic Surgery and the other is at the Plastic Surgery Group in Surrey. Tear trough treatment is a commonly requested procedure. The goal is to address volume loss in the mid face and lower eyelid region.

There are a few more risks when it comes to tear trough filler. A highly renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Arthur Swift, said at one lecture I attended "it is one of the easiest areas to inject....poorly". Not everyone is a candidate for this procedure. If you have bulging eye bags, loose lower eyelid skin and suffer from lower eyelid swelling typically from allergies, you are not a great candidate for this procedure. Even the best injectors out there will occasionally run into issues from treating the tear trough.

What does bad tear trough filler look like?

It looks like an abnormal fullness. Our eyes pick out what looks unusual so if it looks odd most likely there is badly placed product. Swelling can occur and is caused by fluid not draining well in the lymphatic tissues of our lower eyelids. Blue tinged bulges are a sign of superficial product. Finally too much product placed towards the nose and medial tear trough will widen the bridge of our nose. All of these issues require the filler to be dissolved.

What does good filler look like?

It looks like you haven't done anything, just better. Dark circles should be less prominent. There should be a smooth transition from your lid to cheek junction. You should look less tired, more rested and yes, we are meant to still have a slight tear trough. Getting rid of every shadow and crease is not natural.
