Community-minded colleagues at Amazon Filters have ‘given back’ nearly 90 days of voluntary service to good causes in 2024.
More than 60 team members devoted time to initiatives such as school grounds improvements, sorting through bags of donated clothes at a hospice charity and clearing leaves from the grounds of a family respite centre.
Community action days at our firm are largely held in association with the corporate volunteering charity CMP, the Community Matters Partnership.
Each member of our staff is allowed two days’ paid leave for volunteering with CMP or doing other charitable work.
Ruth Pappadakis, Head of People and Culture, said: “We partner with CMP on behalf of the local community in a variety of ways.
“On our 2024 programme of community action, we have reached an amazing 87.5 days of service compared to 55.25 last year.
“This massive increase, a rise of 58%, has come about because 62 people came forward as against 33 last year. The numbers are ramping up.
“We’re thrilled that more colleagues are embracing the spirit of giving something back to the communities where we live and work.”

HIGH PRAISE. We are celebrating a ‘highly commended’ citation for International Business at the prestigious Surrey Business Awards 2024. Judges were keen to praise us after our category entry explained how we support customers in markets around the world through the successful combination of a distribution model and direct supply from the UK. It was one of three awards we were shortlisted for this year. The others were ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and Innovation.

Amazon Filters supports pupils at local secondary schools Kings International and Tomlinscote.

At separate community initiatives with two secondary schools, several of our managers role-played job interviewers while other colleagues welcomed students for a tour of our Camberley production centre.

In support of a ‘big interview’ day for students at Kings International College, Camberley, two managers visited the school and acted as prospective employers to quiz applicants for various roles.

Separately, and as part of our support for the Community Matters Partnership (CMP), we hosted a visit by eleven pupils from Tomlinscote School in Camberley.
The Year 10 group, aged 13 or 14, donned hi-viz jackets and safety footwear for a behind-the-scenes tour of our manufacturing facility which is just two miles from the school.
The visit was one of a series of workplace visits The Community Matters Partnership has organised for pupils this year under its initiative Raise, standing for Raise Aspirations Inspire Support Encourage.
The aim is to share experiences of different vocational opportunities to boost awareness among young learners and encourage confidence and motivation about entering the world of work.

A great opportunity for us to connect with other manufacturing and engineering companies in the Surrey Heath area - we're looking forward to hosting the inaugural event.

New Manufacturing Network aims to grow sector in Surrey Heath

A new Surrey Heath Manufacturing Network has been launched in partnership with Surrey Chambers of Commerce.

The network aims to improve collaboration among local manufacturing and engineering businesses; facilitating shared learning, creating supply chain opportunities and offering business support – elevating innovation and growth in Surrey.

Councillor Kel Finan-Cooke, Portfolio Holder for Economic and Income Development, Surrey Heath Borough Council said “I’m really pleased to see the creation of this network. Surrey Heath is fortunate to be home to many manufacturing and engineering businesses and it is important the Council provides support to these industries.

Through sector-specific events, workshops, and tailored support services, the Council aims to establish this network as a place where businesses can exchange knowledge, explore synergies, and collectively address challenges.

We will also address the local skills gap, work with industry experts to support objectives and look ahead at future technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). to improve productivity within the sector.”

The first event for this network is due to take place in April and will be hosted by Amazon Filters More details will be shared soon.
