Inkspire

Inkspire Inkspire Board is an interactive art piece that focuses on raising awareness for the women of the Downtown Eastside. How can you contribute?

Our team, consisting of Eben Haezer, Gio Orendain, and Rafaela Tam, presents INKSPIRE. We are participating in a Social Entrepreneurship Challenge hosted by SFU (www.startsocialchange.ca). Our goal is to raise funds for a childbirth clinic in Bamako community in Mali, Africa, whilst fostering social change in our local community. In partnership with the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC), we aim to make a positive change in the women society through public art. Our Inkspire Board is an interactive art piece that encourages members of the public to engage in our cause. The surface of the board will have an outline of an image and a theme provided by the DEWC. The public will be able to write or draw a personal message dedicated to the women of the Downtown Eastside. The public will write their messages in colour designated zones, with the appropriate marker, essentially colouring the image. Looking closely, personal messages of individuals will be seen; but from a distance, the individual stories will blend into one image - the DEWC logo. The completed inspiration board will be given to DEWC for their future marketing campaign. For just $2, you can make a direct positive impact in a woman’s life through your motivational message on our Inkspire Board. Over the next two weeks, we will have booths set up in various locations around Vancouver, and during our “Connect & Change” event happening on July 19th. Check back frequently to see where the board will be headed next! Link to "Connect & Change" Event:

The heart of the Downtown Eastside (DTES) is home to survivors of the war on terror: the terror of poverty, physical and spiritual abuse, child apprehension, addictions, and residential schools - all of which quietly destroy the human spirit. Yet in spite of its image as the poorest urban postal cod...
