Today we join the global community in celebrating World First Aid Day—a day dedicated to raising awareness about the life-saving power of first aid.

This year’s theme, “First Aid and Climate Change,” highlights the growing need to adapt our emergency response skills to the realities of a changing climate. From heatwaves and wildfires to floods and storms, first aid can make the difference between life and death.

World First Aid Week continues! We've been hearing, and seeing, a lot about wildfires lately. Exposure to wildfire smoke can lead to serious health emergencies, and it’s important to know the signs, symptoms, and how to respond.

Symptoms resulting from wildfire smoke exposure can include; Headaches, A mild cough, Production of phlegm, Sore and watery eyes, Nose, throat and sinus irritation.

If you are experiencing symptoms, it’s important to limit your exposure by reducing or stopping outdoor activities and stay indoors. Limit outdoor activities and strenuous physical activities as much as possible.

With World First Aid day coming up on Saturday, now is a good time to download the official First Aid App of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The app includes:

- The latest international First Aid and CPR guidelines.
- Preloaded content ensures instant access to critical information, even without reception or an Internet connection.
- Written in person-first and non-gendered language to promote inclusivity.
- A focus on graphics and artwork to depict skills and techniques to increase accessibility.
