Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:30am Essence Studio Sylvan Lake is Therapeutic Yoga for Shoulders and Hips!

I just got a great question from someone: "What should I expect in this class?"

Thank you so much for your interest! This is a blend of modern day biomechanics and anatomy with ancient yoga practices, like yoga nidra (guided meditation) and breathwork. You might even find a smattering of neuroplasticity (brain adaptability) and pain neuroscience too.

The ultimate goal is for you to experience and make note of exactly how your body is feeling as it moves so you can become empowered to take your pain by the reins and get out of it.

I'll give you movements, stimuli, and tools to help you figure out how to make yourself feel better. You're your own expert!

Change in your body is possible. Let's figure this out together ❤️

A body reset button would be great sometimes. Take us back to how we felt at 10 years old. Maybe you were agile and nimble. Less shoulder/back/neck/knee/ankle/elbow/foot/alloverthebody aches and pain. Just press the body reset button and P**F! no pain.

I'm sorry to tell you that Therapeutic Yoga for Shoulders and Hips at Essence Studio Sylvan Lake is not that button. But what it is, is an opportunity to allow your muscles to work together to carry you with more ease.

When they share the load, your compensations go away. Your pain and tension is eased. You're able to move with more agility and nimbleness like a 10 year old on the monkey bars after 3 chocolate bars and a can of Orange Crush.

Whoa. Maybe not that nimble. Let's take this step by step.

Join me each Wednesday at 10:30: May 7 - June 11 and you will:
- seek and find any compensation happening in your body
- help muscles be more responsive and less grippy
- develop coordination so the muscles that should be working are doing their job

This is good good stuff and available to anyone who would like to learn a holistic and empowering way to challenge the pain in their body.

When I first tried Yoga Therapy, I went in with the attitude this couldn't possibly help me in any way... I was just there to support my friend. I thought it was more woo woo nonsense claiming to cure whatever ills me.

It was my hip that illed me. Ever since my 2nd child was born. Clicking while walking, terrible sharp pain when I vacuumed or shoveled.

I'm not going to tell you that the pain never comes back since yoga therapy cured it, because it definitely does. (Thanks to neighbourhood kids who shovel my driveway!)

But I know now what I need to do to help add support in my hips to carry myself easier. And I can now sense when that pain is about to kick off so I can stop it before it gets into red alert mode.

It was so cool to learn that I could help my own body.

If you could remove one area of pain from your body, what would it be? I would genuinely love to hear :)

My previous post talked about finding compensation patterns in your body but what does this all have to do with yoga?!

It's heightening your interoception (feeling into your body and understanding its signals).

Boosting proprioception (how your body is moving in space)

Creating space in our minds through meditation and breathwork.

Appreciating and honouring our bodies and nurturing the good in us!

What on earth is therapeutic yoga?!

In this class, you're going to be exploring exactly how your body is moving with a fine tooth comb and getting curious about any compensation patterns you might find.

Are your hip flexors flexing when they should be quiet? Is your ribcage getting involved when you're raising your arms? Is there any bracing going on?

And then things get really exciting when I show you how to bolster your support structure and add ease to your movement.

I'm incredibly excited and honored to be so warmly welcomed by Essence Studio Sylvan Lake.

Therapeutic Yoga for Shoulders and Hips will take you on a journey inside your body as you discover compensation patterns that can cause dysfunctional movement and pain.

Often when we are experiencing pain, we might try stretching or maybe even strengthening that area. Take it back another step and unravel your movement back to a time when it was easy and pure.

The results might surprise you.
