In few days some of us are going to fast for 25 hrs for Yom Kippur. A fast is something I don’t recommend to do to anyone who’s trying to lose weight, but when it comes to a religious holiday it’s a different story.
So here are few tips on how to enter a fast and how to end a fast:
1. Starting today cut out all alcohol intake and cut down on caffeinated beverages. Instead start drinking more water, at least 2L a day!
2. Start eating more complex carbs in each meal. Some great options are: brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole grain pasta, and buckwheat! The complex carbs will help us feel fuller for longer, and cut down on this bloated feeling.
3. Don’t consume any refined sugar and salt, like chocolate, candies, or salty chips. Instead have more fruits and vegetables.
4. When entering a fast your meal shouldn’t have too much salt. In your plate include a protein like chicken, vegetables like a salad, and a complex carb like brown rice. You don’t need to over eat in order not to be hungry tomorrow. You should still listen to your body.
5. When breaking your fast start by sipping some water and have a herbal tea, or some hot water with mint leaves. Don’t eat a heavy meal, instead enjoy a soup that includes lots of green vegetables and some chicken to bring back all the nutrients list in the day of fasting.
Hope everyone who is fasting will have a meaningful and easy fast 🤗
