My name is Ian Convey and I am looking for your vote for Councillor at large. I was born in Mckellar hospital in 1959, graduated from Westgate CVI in 1978, graduated from the Hotel Management Program at Confederation College in 1985. I am a past president of the Confederation College Student Union, past president Fort City Kinsmen Club, I was chairman of the Kinsmen Mothers Day CF telethon in 1995
. I spent the last 24 years working as a front line manager for Canadian Pacific Railway here in Thunder Bay. In March of this year I resigned from the Railway to pursue my dream of owning my own business. I created MacGregor Hospitality Management Inc. which currently operates Mini MacGregors Pub and Nanas Celtic Cafe on Simpson Street. I have been experiencing computer problems over the past several weeks and was unable to answer many of the surveys that were sent out and for this I apologize. Here are the issues that if elected I would work towards improving as your representative on council. Our roads and infrastucture, the shortage of Doctors in our comunity, the higher than average gas and fuel prices, rising energy costs, homelessness, addiction issues and safety issues in all of our neighborhoods. Do I have all the answers? What can I offer? I will work for you,my fellow taxpayers, to see that with our "Common Cents" we get the best value for each and every tax dollar. My goal is to see this wonderful city grow back into the beautiful place that I grew up in, the place that I am proud to call my home. If you would like to know more about me visit Ian Convey for City Council on Facebook or email me at icon@tbaytel.net

(In case it doesn't make the paper..) To My Fellow Taxpayers
Since the Auditorium was built and the Charity Casino was built, I have not noticed any new businesses nor companies moving to Thunder Bay as a result of their existence. Yet an "Event Centre" promises to bring corporations and entrepreneurs flocking to our fair city. We are on phase four of the "Feasibility Study", which reads, more like a sales brochure full of promises, than what it's purpose is, "to show if a project or undertaking is FEASIBLE". Building another City owned and operated entertainment facility at this time, with all of the other more important issues facing us, that require "our tax dollars, our common cents", is NOT feasible. Our City sold a golf course for under $700,000 dollars when there were higher offers on the table, the rates at the other two courses are not affordable to most, yet these should be there for young people and individuals new to the game to go out and learn. Just like our outdoor pools and rinks, they are paid for by our taxes for everybody to use and enjoy. Lets clean up this City to the beautiful place it can be, the place that I am proud to call my home, before we build any more facilities that a lot of people cannot afford to use. Ian Convey
