👓Most prescription lenses anymore contain some form of anti-scratch coating.
This does NOT make your lenses completely scratch-proof! Using things like Kleenex or Papertowel which contain paper fibres can and will lead to scratches.

💡An anti-reflective or blue-light blocker may also be useful and recommended with your lenses, as well.
Sometimes with these additional coatings, oils from our fingers and faces can make cleaning our lenses a bit of a pain.

🧼This is why our clinic always recommends regular/daily cleaning with a mild dish detergent like Dawn that does not contact harsh chemicals.
A small amount of detergent and some warm water will wash your lenses clean in no time!
Your glasses can then be dried with a soft hand towel or dish towel.
✨We will also provide you with a microfiber lens cloth to polish your lenses and eliminate any remaining smudges or streaks from drying.

💦Your new eyewear may also come with a small lens cleaning spray.
This spray is useful for a quick and occasional clean on-the-go when soap and water isn't always accessible.
However, this spray over time and several applications CAN leave your lenses feeling smudgy. This is why we recommend regular cleaning in-between with soap and water.

NOTICE TO PATIENTS:

The office will be CLOSED for the full week of March 2nd to March 7th as we upgrade our computer systems and the entire frame gallery.

This month, we would like to highlight low vision and the importance of regular eye exams.

Low vision isn't just poor or unclear vision. Low vision happens when things like Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Diabetic Retinopathy develop inside the eyes and affect your vision daily, gradually becoming worse with time. These eye conditions are gradual and irreversible.

With proper eye treatments and regular exams, the symptoms of low vision can be managed and slowed.

It's important to keep up on your regular eye exams, whether every 12 months, 18 months, or 24 months so that your Optometrist can see the signs of low vision early to better prepare you for treatments.

Blepharitis is a common condition that causes inflammation of the eyelid or eyelids. 👁

There are 2 main causes for blepharitis:
One is from blockages to the oil glands around the lower waterline along the eyelashes. 🚫
The other is usually from an excessive amount of bacteria or Demodex mites along the lash line. 🐛

Blepharitis is common, but there is no cure. It is a chronic condition that can only be treated when a flare up happens.

The most successful treatment of symptoms involves an eye-safe cleanser that removes excess oils and kills bacteria around the eyes and waterline. 🧼

Available treatments like Blephaderm can be purchased over the counter and do not require a prescription.
