Hi all! I have a few practice updates & exciting announcements:

I am sad to have left Urban Health Group, a clinic I had been a part of for over two years. I will miss all those I had the opportunity to work with, and will cherish the special memories and bonds that were made.

I am beyond excited to announce that .wengler and I will be opening a clinic, . As healthcare practitioners, this has always been our goal and we are thrilled to be putting it into action!

What are your 2022 health & wellness goals?

“I want to try to incorporate more aerobic training,” shares Dr. Alessia Stefenatti, one of UHG’s chiropractors. “Right now, I’m just doing mostly HIIT workouts which are more anaerobic.”

Aerobic exercises involve anything that gets your heart rate up, such as running.

In addition to aerobic training, Dr. Alessia wants to narrow in on her nutritional deficiencies.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m lacking stuff because my muscle cramps or my eye is twitching. I’m like, ‘This is not normal; I need some magnesium.’ So just looking into what my body needs so that I can better take care of it.”

You can book and catch up with Dr. Alessia every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at the clinic.

💪Kids have limited time to build healthy bones.

Dr. Alessia stresses that building bone density is a major priority during growing years. “Most people reach their bone mass around 25 to 30 years of age. Before that, they need to have good diets and adequate exercise. Calcium is an important building block for bones and vitamin D helps calcium get absorbed from our diets.”

In addition to diet, exercise can help build bone mass. Dr. Alessia shares, “Weight-bearing exercise is important to help build bone mass. Nowadays, I’ve been seeing a lot of adolescents in high school because I think they’re on their computer so much. Especially those kids that are at home and not even going into school, doing it all online, they’re not really moving much from their workspace, and things are just tightening up.”

Whether studying in-school or online, Dr. Alessia adds that recess plays a vital role in development. “The whole reason that schools do recess is not just to get the mind off [school] and have a change of what’s going on, but to get you moving. It’s so important to keep moving.”

Book your child in with a chiropractor to help them learn how to care for their bones. Online booking is available through our bio.

🧐If you're on the hunt for the best position for sitting through long periods of work, sorry, but you're unlikely to find one.

"Always avoid prolonged and excessive positions," says Dr. Alessia Stefenatti, .

"That means trying to take frequent breaks. If you're sitting at a computer all day because it's your job, have a glass of water beside you that you can constantly be drinking. When you're done, get up to refill and take bathroom breaks. Even regularly changing your position in your chair is better than sticking to just one."

ℹ️She adds, "The biggest thing that I tell people to remember is that there's no best position for working or sitting; the best position is always changing.”

Ask your chiropractor for more ergonomic tips to best support your spine while you work. You can even snap a pic of your workspace for a critique!
