Greater Toronto Accessibility is excited to share photos from a special project in one of the oldest homes we’ve worked in — built in 1882 in downtown Toronto!

Our amazing clients, Lynne and David, wanted to replace their heavy cast iron clawfoot tub with a walk-in shower that would be safer and more accessible. The challenge? Carefully removing that back-breaking tub and upgrading the space without disturbing the rest of the bathroom.

In just 1.5 weeks, we installed a fully waterproofed walk-in shower using Schluter’s top-of-the-line membrane system, added a dual-function temperature-controlled valve (no more fiddling with the dial!), a rain head + wand combo, and custom glass doors that blend modern elegance with historic charm.

Finished off with a fresh coat of paint, Lynne and David now have a beautiful, functional shower they can enjoy for years to come in their Forever Home.

🔨 From Outdated to Outstanding! 🚿

This 1950s bathroom was due for a major glow-up, and wow—what a transformation! From outdated lathe and plaster walls, bulkheads, and archways to a fully accessible, modern, and universally designed space. 🌟

Our team went above and beyond:
✅ Widened the door for easy access
✅ Created a barrier-free shower
✅ Installed a sleek, space-saving vanity
✅ Added an exhaust fan to keep humidity in check

Now, this stunning bathroom not only looks incredible but also allows our client to age in place safely and stylishly. Huge shoutout to the team for turning her vision into a reality. 💪

Changing a person’s quality of life through renovation is something truly rewarding for Greater Toronto Accessibility!

We were grateful for the opportunity to work for a young girl that is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Before our renovation, her father struggled to bathe his daughter due to the stress it put on his back to transfer her in and out of the bathtub.

After countless hours of planning and preparation, we successfully completed our renovation in just over 2 weeks time, and on a strict funding budget.

GTA created a large which will allow for the father to roll his daughter into the shower on a commode chair, a nice new 36” pocket door for easy access into the bathroom, a roll under pedestal sink, and space on the back wall for a future change table. We also roughed in electrical for a future ceiling track lift and a future bidet toilet seat. Our custom shower curtain was made with the thought in mind for a future ceiling track space.

This family was so grateful for our crew’s hard work and dedication to making his daughters dream come true! No more struggling to bathe and no more back pain for her father.
