💫5 additional tips to reverse insulin resistance - Part 2

1️⃣Cortisol is naturally high in the morning. Not having breakfast within 1-3 hrs after waking can put more stress on the body, increasing cortisol levels even further, worsening symptoms even more.

2️⃣Again, with cortisol naturally being highest in the morning, adding caffeine, which is a stimulant, will further amplify this stress response. When paired with morning fasting and possibly poor sleep, it can increase jitters, anxiety and midday cravings.

3️⃣In the evening our physical activity and digestion naturally slow down. Heavy meals will not be digested as efficiently, leading to fat storage, prolonged glucose spikes, higher morning blood sugar levels, bloating, and overall chronic inflammation.

4️⃣Having an early dinner, about 5 hrs before bed time will ensure better digestion, better overnight blood sugar control, improved insulin sensitivity, and better sleep quality. You will also feel lighter in the morning, less puffy and bloated, more alert and energized.

5️⃣By having an early dinner, you can start intermittent fasting early in the evening into the morning hours easily achieving 14 to 16 hours of fasting. Restrictive eating is very important for giving the digestive system a break, stabilizing blood sugar and reducing insulin levels.

5 tips to reversing insulin resistance in midlife:

1️⃣Prioritize fiber
Fibre slows down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, reducing blood sugar spikes, and lowering the demand for insulin.

2️⃣Eliminate processed food and refined sugar
These ultra processed foods cause rapid blood sugar spikes, leading to excess insulin production and worsening insulin resistance over time.

3️⃣Build muscle
Muscle is a glucose burning machine. Muscle absorb glucose from the bloodstream and utilize it as fuel. The more muscle you build, the better your insulin sensitivity becomes, helping to stabilize blood sugar and improve metabolism.

4️⃣Walk for at least 10 minutes after each meal
A 10-minute walk after meals activate muscles to use glucose for energy, which reduces the amount of insulin the body needs to produce.

5️⃣Improve your quality of sleep
Good quality sleep naturally reduces cortisol spike, specially first thing in the morning. The reduced cortisol will help regulate blood sugar in the morning and throughout the day.
