Is Surya Namaskar Just Exercise—or a Sacred Ritual in Disguise?

I’m about to drop a massive secret so pay attention.

In addition to all the wonderful benefits of yoga and meditation that you’re no doubt already aware of (and unfortunately not swayed by) and the spiritual benefits of yoga, yoga asanas have the power to change your physiology.

What does that mean?

That means that if you have any physical ailments or any misalignments in your body, the regular practice of yoga can help you correct this.

In my own life, I have corrected a flat foot and a hip that would rotate and pop out every time I put weight on that side.

Not only has it improved my posture, it has skyrocketed my confidence through the roof.

Previously, I used to be so self-conscious – when I walked, I never wanted anyone to look at me.

Through the practice of yoga, I have
• Eliminated the expensive costs of orthotics
• Avoided regular doctor’s visits
• Dodged the dismay of deteriorating muscles and bodily strength
• Eliminated the shame I felt every time I walked
• Empowered myself
• Healed my body
• Allowed myself to show up as my full self
• Set an example for everyone else to show them that it is possible.

You are not doomed by the hand that you’re dealt, but actually given the opportunity to rise to the challenge and change your life.

Yoga can change your physiology, erase your mental patterns, and transform you into the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Earlier this year, I decided I wanted to build strength and resilience not only in my mind, but also in my body.

I started to wonder what the best way to do that would be, and I concluded that 108 sun salutations would be the perfect challenge.

As I got closer to International Yoga Day, I decided to use this opportunity to mobilize my community and get them excited about yoga. We all know the benefits, sometimes, we just need a little push to get started.

So, I created a WhatsApp group, shared a message in all my communities, and invited everyone to join me.

A few brave souls hopped in to the group full of energy and joined me in this challenge. Ever since the end of May, we've been practicing together every single day and building up to 108 sun salutations.

Not gonna lie, it's been a JOURNEY – a transformative, beautiful journey.

I've been able to see that I am stronger than I think I am, and the smiling faces of my community tell me that they're feeling the same.

I decided the best way to celebrate our growth would – of course – be together and in person.

So for June 21st, International Yoga Day, I decided to put together a live event where all of us could meet and do 108 sun salutations together.
