Here’s one thing I’ve been honing in on since becoming a nutritionist…I can not control everything.
Is it just me or do you feel when you learn new things sometimes it feels like an “end all be all” ? I’ve learned not everything can be in my control, but I can remember my small practices goes a long way.
When it comes to plastic, plasticizers are used to make plastic flexible, and many are endocrine disrupters (natural or man-made chemicals that may mimic or interfere with the body's hormones, known as the endocrine system.) Things like heat, acidity, salt and fat make plastic leach more.
But what happens when you are going out? We can make conscious decisions like bringing our own mugs to our favourite cafes, warm up our foods in ovens, and store our foods in glass containers, but were humans and not every day is going to be perfect.
As a nutritionist sometimes I battle with things like these when I’m not in a familiar setting, but I also have to remember I have a few options. Continue to put my body through fight/flight which will disrupt my digestive process or create an awareness to my body to remain calm and remind myself the things I know and the things that I do on a daily basis won’t be dismissed and this disruptor in my routine won’t wreak havoc on what I’ve created for myself and my body.
Endocrine Disrupters are everywhere. Your home is a great place to start. Replace small things from tea bags, containers, and plastic wraps.
