You’re eating the same, moving the same—but suddenly, the weight won’t budge, you’re exhausted all the time, and your mood is all over the place. Sound familiar?

It’s easy to brush it off as stress or aging, but what if the real problem is your thyroid?

When your thyroid slows down, so does everything else—your metabolism, your digestion, your energy, even your brain function. And here’s the kicker? Most doctors only check TSH and call it a day. But if you’re still struggling, you need a full thyroid panel—including Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and antibodies.

If something feels off, listen to your body. Your symptoms are real, and they deserve answers.

Everywhere you look, someone is on Ozempic or Mounjaro. But is it really the magic bullet for weight loss? Let’s set the record straight—not everyone responds to these medications the same way.
I’ve had patients lose 20+ lbs on these meds… but I’ve also seen some side effects and rebound weight gain, as well. I’m not “for” or “against” these medications, and I think they can have a purpose and a place under the right circumstances. They can also be extremely helpful, when taken correctly.

How do they work?
Mimic GLP-1, a hormone that reduces hunger & slows digestion
Stabilize blood sugar, reducing cravings
Can support weight loss (but only if done right!)

BUT BEWARE:
Muscle loss if you’re not eating enough protein
Nutrient deficiencies (especially B12)
Rebound weight gain when stopping
Nause and other digestive concerns

The latest is microdosing these medications, which may ease some of these side effects. (More on this later!)

Hello 2025 💫

Here’s to a year where the sun will rise,
On dreams renewed beneath clear skies.
A journey forward, bold and bright,
Guided by hope, our steadfast light.

Though trials may come and shadows fall,
We’ll stand as mountains, enduring it all.
True to ourselves, our values held near,
Facing adversity without doubt or fear.
In every storm, we find our way,
Emerging stronger with each new day.

In health, we find the wealth we need,
Each breath a promise, each step a seed.
Through mindful care and hearts that strive,
We’ll flourish strong in 2025.

Let kindness bloom and wisdom lead,
With joy as the anthem to every deed.
In balance, beauty, and calm, we’ll dwell,
A symphony played where all is well.

Raise your gaze, and lift your voice,
This year is ours to shape, our choice.
May it bring you love, and dreams alive—
Here’s to a happy, healthy 2025. 🌟

Merry Christmas!🎄
Better late than never 💫

What an amazing year 2024 has been! This year brought struggles, triumphs, big changes, laughter, love and joy ♥️

It brought huge changes my way, as I made a big decision to return to school - with a 1 and 4 year old in tow 🥰🫠
Clearly, sleep was not high on my priority list! 😉

What an adventure this had been for all of us! I am so grateful that my children get to watch me achieve a goal I’ve had for many years. My heart swells every time Vienne tells me she wants to be a doctor, like Mommy. When she tells me she wants to go to lecture with me or sits in on a presentation I’m giving - then raises her hand to ask a question! ♥️ When she tells me she never wants to go back, I know I made the right decision for all of us. I know she will remember this year, and I hope it sets the seed for her own life to be full of curiosity, exploring and adventure! 🗺️

I’m not sure how much Magnus will remember of this adventure, but I hope he remembers all of the new people who have come into his life, who love him beyond words. 🩵

We have 2 days left in 2024, and I am so looking forward to all that 2025 will bring!! 🌟 #2024 #2025

Med School Medical myth :
“If your diet contains a lot of fat, you will gain weight. “

😭😭😭. Seriously, how are they still teaching this?! This was stated in a lecture this week.

As a very strong proponent of low-carb, keto and fasting, many patients come to see me for these reasons specifically.
They know the benefits, but need help, because there is a lot of confusing and conflicting info out there, their providers are misinformed, don’t know how to help them, or (on the crazy extreme end) refuse to work with them if they follow this lifestyle 🤦🏻‍♀️
As an aside, if you’re trying to make healthy changes, want to give keto a try, and your provider refuses to work with you if you do it - find a new doctor!! ⭐️

One of the main questions I get is: WHY DOESN’T MY DOCTOR KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?
It’s kind of a sad question, since the info and evidence are so readily available.
So, here are my personal thoughts as to why:
1. Stuck in old research.
2. They aren’t willing to learn.
3. Personal bias - they’ve just decided they don’t like it (because from an evidence stand point, there’s no reason to make patients avoid it).
4. They were taught incorrect info, and didn’t delve any deeper than that. 🛑

PSA: Keto is not bad for you and
EATING FAT WILL NOT MAKE YOU FAT!!! 🗣️
(Unless, of course, you’re downing McD’s and that’s where your fat is coming from, or you’re eating carbs like they’re going out of style, and topping it off with some healthy avocado).

When you come in to see me and ask why your doctor doesn’t know anything about keto. THIS. 👆🏼THIS is why!
Because that’s what they’re taught (in passing, and in throw away comments). Last week it was a throw away comment of “the brain can’t use ketones and you know, ketoacidosis . Moving on.” 😭
This is what your doctor learned.
And many have opted not to dig any further from there.

There is generally NO point in trying to “educate” these individuals or change their stance. They either want to learn, or they don’t.
Save your energy, save your breath. And find a new provider who is willing to help you ❤️and remember, eating fat will not you fat.

Maybe it’s my iron?

Honestly, it probably IS your iron!! The Canadian guidelines on IRON DEFICIENCY have finally been updated 🙏🏼

These guidelines were outdated, with the level being anywhere from below 10-15, before being considered iron deficient.

If a woman came in with an iron below 50, and primary complaint of fatigue? I was treating that iron level. This is the difference between normal and optimal. 💫

When I was pregnant with Vienne and Magnus, my ferritin levels were 6 (❗️) - in the 1st trimester!! Iron needs shoot way up in the 3rd trimester and I was deficient before even starting.

I had to convince them to give me iron infusions. I have no idea why this is so controversial. Yes, people can have side effects and they are done in-hospital here. But TOTALLY worth it. I can’t imagine going through my entire pregnancy with ferritin levels that low.

Studies have also found that low iron levels in Mama can lead to increased risk of cognitive impairments (like autism, attention deficit syndrome, and learning disabilities) in babe. I wasn’t taking no for an answer.

This is a marker that I check on ALL patients, no matter what their primary concern is. It’s so important to address (and also figure out why it’s low).
Is it time to get your iron checked? (And your kiddos!).

It’s just nature taking its course…right?

WRONG.
The above arguments have always been interesting to me. Why is the idea of replacing our hormones so… mixed. 🤔
Hormone replacement in women has become extremely controversial, which I don’t really understand.

No Uterus? Don’t need it.
Menopause? It’s just normal.
Safety of hormones? Fear.
I hear these statements all the time, and all it does is highlight that more education is needed!
Firstly, the safety of bioidentical hormones has been well-established. (Of course, still talk to your doctor!).
As for the other points, it’s as if, once we are past our child-bearing years, our hormones are irrelevant.
FEMALE HORMONES ARE FOR MORE THAN JUST REPRODUCTION!!! 🗣️

Estrogen and Progesterone ALONE have more than 400 (❗️)functions in the body. And certainly not all related to child-bearing and menstruation. Bone, brain, cardiovascular, immune, metabolic functions.
The risk of Osteoporosis, heart disease increase. Changes in mood, weight gain.

Why on earth, once we are “past our childbearing years,” would we not want those hormones back?!
There are options to address these through hormones and lifestyle. ❣️

100 years ago, the average female life expectancy was 54-58 years of age!!
That means you would live your life in Menopause for maybe 10 years, at the most? (Unless you went into early menopause).
The life expectancy today is about 75-80 years of age for women. That means, you could live almost 1/2 your life in menopause - and without these hormones.

So, let me share my stance on this…:
1. If a man has low testosterone at any age, they replace it. Why aren’t women given the same option?
2. Hypertension, Bone loss/osteoporosis, are also a natural part of aging. And we treat those immediately - to optimize health outcomes and quality of life. Do we leave that untreated and just let “nature take its course” here? Allowing our bones to become brittle and frail? Of course not! We treat this “natural, age-related” condition. Same goes for blood pressure. Why are female hormones any different? ** CONT’D **

Medical Misinformation 👩🏻‍⚕️

There is a new trend on social that is all about busting medical misinformation. 🩺
Finding someone else’s video or content, and then sharing it to your platform… and tearing it apart.
Now, I’m all for setting the record straight when it comes to the WILD information being shared on social platforms, by people who really shouldn’t be sharing it, are practicing out of scope or, are even sharing harmful information - with a lot of this geared towards women, unfortunately. 🚺

So what’s my issue with busting Medical Misinformation? My issue is HOW it’s being done. Shutting down the misinformation is essential. But it’s the… bullying and condescension, hidden behind the “well, it’s science,” phrase. 🧪

I see really amazing providers fighting it out on social, other providers taking shots at someone else, attacking members of their own profession… It’s not great to see.

You absolutely can (and should) shut down medical misinformation. It is harmful for those who are searching for clear answer. You do not, however, have to tear people down in the process!! ☮️

The tone in most of these videos is combative, aggressive, condescending and laced with hierarchy-filled statements, full of eye rolling - sometimes even name calling. And of course, telling you to unfollow and block someone else… while telling you to follow them.
There is also a bit of “medical policing,” as if no one is allowed to speak on anything if they aren’t doctors - which also isn’t true. There is some right to this train of thought, and some wrong, depending on what someone is saying and sharing.

I end up finding some of these video more off-putting, because they’re are so aggressive and attacking in nature- subtly (or not to subtly) putting someone down, while building themselves up - and it detracts from the useful and usually quite accurate, information that provider is sharing.

So yes, please continue to bust the medical myths - but maybe save the aggression and eye-rolling for after your post?
