Final consonant devoicing— what is that?! 🤔

This happens when speakers mistakenly uses the wrong “unvoiced” sound at the end of an English word.
For example, they might say, “place” instead of “plays”.

This is a pretty common error for many speakers with English as a second language. Practice with me and make sure you are saying the RIGHT word 👍

Are you feeling stressed?! 😬😬😬

OK, I’m actually talking about LANGUAGE stress! I.e., The variations of energy in our voices when we speak.

English is what we call a “stress-timed” language. That means each syllable has a different amount of energy in it, and can essentially be longer or shorter than other syllables around it.

It’s important that you use appropriate stress for each syllable in English, as it will contribute to how easy it is for others to listen to and understand you.
