You used to love going out. Now you cancel plans, avoid crowds, and wonder what happened to you. Nobody told you social anxiety is a symptom of menopause.
In our symptoms survey with over 5,200 women, my team and I at Morphus identified 103 symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. And social anxiety is one of them. In fact, 44% of the women who filled out our survey reported experiencing it.
Here’s what’s actually happening: When estrogen drops, it affects serotonin and dopamine, the brain chemicals responsible for mood, confidence, and how safe you feel in social situations. So that feeling of dread before a party, the racing heart in a crowded room, the relief when plans get canceled? That’s not you becoming antisocial. That’s your hormones.
And here’s the thing. Most women suffer in silence because they think something is wrong with them. Their doctors don’t connect the dots. Their partners don’t understand. And they slowly start shrinking their lives to manage symptoms nobody has even named for them.
You deserve better than that.
If this resonates, save this video and share it with every woman in your life who has been canceling plans and wondering what happened to her. Because the more we talk about this, the less alone we all feel.
