A huge thank you to the Brain Injury Association of Durham (BIAD) for the invitation to be a guest panelist at yesterday’s Impact to Insight community event. It was an honour to share insights on the rehabilitation journey and discuss the very real barriers and facilitators to brain injury rehab in our community.
A key theme of our discussion was the non-linear and deeply unique nature of every single brain injury journey. We also addressed the critical need to bridge the gap between our publicly funded health system and private clinics—a gap that community organizations like BIAD work tirelessly to fill.
To create a truly supportive ecosystem, we need more accessible resources: consistent workshops, virtual classes, and education seminars for both survivors and their networks. The impact of a brain injury ripples out, affecting caregivers, family, and friends, and our support systems must encompass them all.
Grateful for the vital work BIAD does and for the powerful community partnerships that make a real difference. Let’s continue to build a more connected and resilient support network together.

Gentle Mobilization: Learn to move the skin and tissue around your scar to improve glide and reduce tightness.Soft Tissue
Release: Simple techniques to ease adhesions and improve flexibility.
