Merci! Thank you CN Tower / Tour CN
For years, DIPG families across Canada have been fervently petitioning the Canadian government to designate May 17th as DIPG Awareness Day, following the lead of Australia, the United States, and some countries in Europe.
We are thrilled to announce their persistence is so close to paying off. Next year, at this time, May 17th should officially be recognized as DIPG Awareness Day in Canada.
Tomorrow, the CN Tower will light yellow💛 and grey🩶 for DIPG awareness.
BCC would like to thank Ambassadors, Michal and Jackie Borkowski for arranging this special lighting for their DIPG angel, Isabelle, and all the other families who have been affected by this most dreadful disease.
🧠ABOUT DIPG
Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is an aggressive, cancerous tumour that develops in the brain stem (pons). This area of the brain controls basic functions: breathing, hearing, talking, vision, and more. It is the most lethal type of pediatric brain cancer, and the #1 cause of cancer death in children under 15. There are no known effective treatments, with a survival rate of 0%. Surgery is typically not recommended because the outcome would likely cause more harm than good. Unlike with many other types of pediatric cancers, there has been very little progress in finding effective treatments, due to the location of the tumour as well insufficient funding.
NOTE: The CN Tower Toronto lighting begins at sunset but will not be fully visible until the sky darkens sufficiently, approximately 30 minutes later. If you can’t make it to Toronto, you can catch the lighting on Earthcam https://www.cntower.ca/live-views
Brain Cancer Canada would like to thank in Toronto for their ongoing support in helping us shine a light on the need for greater awareness and funding for malignant brain tumours.
