It’s not sustainable to skip rest days, and there are plenty of benefits to taking time to rest as well. Here are a few:

⚡ Using your rest day to try something new or doing something you already love

⚡️ Giving your body the opportunity to recover to reduce the risk of injury

⚡️ Spending your rest day socializing and building relationships

⚡️ Allowing torn muscle fibers to repair and rebuild bigger and stronger

⚡️ Letting your mind to recharge to enhance focus and motivation

🌈 Happy Pride Month!

To the leaders who have shattered barriers, making the athletic community safer for LGBTQ2S+ athletes, your courage does not go unnoticed and your sacrifices are never forgotten.

Let's celebrate the victories, and continue to work towards a future where every athlete can compete safely, as their authentic selves. 🌈

It starts with you. If you want other people to respect your boundaries, you need to respect them yourself.

🤍 Take note when you’re feeling tired or overwhelmed.

🤍 Remember, it's okay to prioritize yourself and turn down requests.

🤍 Don’t overcommit yourself to things that will drain more of your energy.

Save this as a reminder, for when practicing healthy habits feels hard 🤍

Distraction IS a coping tool!

A great repost/read from :

Distraction can get a bad rep.

Sometimes clients discover in session with me that their coping skills are just distracting them from feeling and processing emotions. And, they often beat themselves up about this.

But let’s remember distraction is an important coping skill!

Distraction is a bandaid. Bandaids don't allow us to fully heal, but they are important! They stop bleeding! The problem comes when we *exclusively* use distraction to cope.

It may not be possible due to your life circumstances right now to get to the root of your issues. You may need to stop the bleeding for a bit, and that’s okay.

See if you can practice (when you’re ready) in short increments. Start with allowing yourself to feel for 10 minutes, going for a walk or journaling... not to distract, but to feel.

What are other ways you like to practice processing your emotions?

Tips for having difficult conversations with coaches:

💡Schedule a time – ask your coach to meet at a specific time so you can both prepare for the conversation.

💡Write notes and bring them with you – sometimes we can get flustered or forgetful during difficult conversations & writing down your key points can help you stay on track.

💡Take deep breaths and bring your water with you – if you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, take a break, drink some water and reset.

💡Don’t be afraid to show emotion – don’t quit the conversation to avoid getting emotional. Your feelings are valid and if they arise during the conversation, that’s okay. Take your time and if you feel that you can’t carry on, consider rescheduling the conversation.
