GOLDEN RULE: Thoughts are just thoughts! I know for a lot of us it’s super common to experience less than desirable thoughts and self talk. When these unhelpful thoughts strike, it can definitely throw us off and put us into a less pleasant mood. It’s important to remember when these thoughts strike we have the power and control to manage the distress they bring. Here are a few things we can say to ourselves when we find these unhelpful thoughts creeping in.

Did you know there are 7 types of rest you need to truly recharge? They are:
- Physical Rest: This includes activities like sleeping, napping, and resting your body after physical exertion.
- Mental Rest: Mental rest involves giving your mind a break from constant stimulation. This might include activities like meditation, mindfulness, or simply spending time in nature.
- Emotional Rest: Emotional rest involves taking care of your emotional well-being. This might include activities like journaling, talking to a friend, or practicing self-compassion.
Social Rest: Social rest involves taking a break from social interactions when you need some time alone to recharge.
- Sensory Rest: Sensory rest involves giving your senses a break from stimulation. This might involve turning off bright lights, reducing noise, or spending time in a quiet, peaceful environment.
- Creative Rest: Creative rest involves taking a break from creative activities and allowing your mind to rest and recharge.
- Spiritual Rest: Spiritual rest involves taking time to connect with your spiritual beliefs and practices, whatever they may be. This might involve activities like prayer, meditation, or spending time in nature.
Each of these plays a crucial role in your well-being!

We often get caught up in trying to understand our feelings, however this tends to have us stagnant as we think about what we’re feeling rather than actually feeling our emotions and feelings and properly processing them and allowing them to move through and out of our bodies. .kellyvincent does a tremendous job at explaining this! In the realm of psychotherapy it’s always beneficial to listen to what other mental health professionals have to say on topics and see if that resonates with you and if you can possibly further expand and add to it.
