The OCA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM is now open for registration for both mentors and mentees during the February to June 2025 term.

The program connects experienced chiropractic mentors with a small group (up to five) of mentees whose career paths and goals align. During the five-month term, each mentor will virtually meet with their mentee group monthly for one- to two-hour sessions where they’ll discuss experiences, growth opportunities and next steps.

Become a mentor: If you’re a member who’s been practising for 10 or more years and have a strong drive to support your younger colleagues, consider becoming a mentor.

Become a mentee: If you’re an early-career member who’s been in practice for less than seven years and want to learn from experienced colleagues, consider becoming a mentee.

Congratulations to Dr. Carlo Ammendolia and Dr. Josh Plener on the successful delivery of the inaugural Non-Operative Spine Course through the University of Toronto Spine Program. This course is a groundbreaking addition to the Citywide Spine Fellowship Program offered by the U of T Spine Program. This course marks a significant milestone in training future spine surgeons by bridging neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery with non-operative care through innovative, patient-centered care strategies.

Two OCA members and leading experts in the field, Dr. Carlo Ammendolia and Dr. Joshua Plener delivered this course on December 9th and highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in spine care. We share faculty’s excitement and pride to see such enthusiastic engagement from participants.

🔍 Course Highlights:
✅ 90-minute didactic session: Evidence-based non-operative options for spine conditions.
✅ 2.5-hour hands-on demonstration: Practical application of key non-operative techniques.
✅ Case presentations: Integrating non-operative principles into patient care.

About the Faculty:
🌟 Dr. Carlo Ammendolia: Chiropractor, Director of the Spine Clinic & Spinal Stenosis Program at Mount Sinai Hospital, and clinician scientist at U of T Department of Surgery.
🌟 Dr. Joshua Plener: Chiropractor and researcher at the Mount Sinai Hospital Spine Clinic and PhD student within Clinical Epidemiology at U of T.

Amazing work!

OCA’s CEO Caroline Brereton was invited to speak at pre-budget consultations held by Ontario’s Ministry of Finance in Vineland, Ontario. She advocated on behalf of members and their patients so that important tests such as diagnostic ultrasounds, MRIs and CT scans can be ordered directly by their chiropractor. This would enable patients who have had to leave their jobs to manage nMSK conditions to return to work faster and contribute to the economy.

She also spoke about increasing accident benefits for Ontarians injured in motor vehicle accidents as part of the ongoing review of the province’s auto insurance system.

Great to discuss the value of chiropractic care for animals with Hon. Rob Flack, Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. He has experienced how chiropractors can help after seeing first-hand how animals respond. We appreciated discussing with him the need for continued access to comprehensive chiropractic care for animals.

November 30 was a great day for the chiropractic profession. OCA members gathered at the Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto to celebrate the best in chiropractic care for 2024.
