Hey, beautiful soul.

Happy Friday. I hope you are doing well and staying hydrated. If not, this is your friendly and gentle reminder to drink some water.

The lichen sclerosus community often has many questions about LS and the urethra. For instance, you may wonder:

-Can LS impact the urethral/urethral opening,

-What does fusing of the urethral opening look like,

-Why does my stream of urine spray everywhere,

-What can I do for overall urethral health with LS,

- + much more.

If so, you will definitely want to check out my latest video for LSSN where we tackle these questions and more with Dr. Rachel Rubin.

Dr. Rachel S. Rubin is a board-certified urologist and sexual medicine specialist. She is one of only a handful of physicians with fellowship training in sexual medicine for all genders. Dr. Rubin is a clinician, researcher, and passionate educator. In addition to being the former education chair and current Director-at-Large for the International Society for the Study of Women’s S*xual Health (ISSWSH), she serves as associate editor for the journal S*xual Medicine Reviews. Dr. Rubin completed her medical education at Tufts University, her urology training at Georgetown University, and her sexual medicine fellowship training with Dr. Irwin Goldstein in San Diego.

Hey, beautiful soul.

Happy Friday.

A while ago I shared an online survey with the online community asking questions about sexualhealth.

One of the biggest pain points that was mentioned was low libido.

So many folks struggle with lichen sclerosus and low libido.

The truth is, libido is multifaceted and complex. Therefore, we brought expert speaker Dr. Lori Brotto on to discuss this topic. Dr. Lori Brotton is a Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Registered Psychologist in Vancouver, Canada. She has been the Executive Director of the Women’s Health Research Institute of BC located at BC Women’s Hospital since 2016. Dr. Brotto holds a Canada Research Chair in Women’s S*xual Health.

She is also the author of Better S*x Through Mindfulness: How Women Can Cultivate Desire and The Better S*x Through Mindfulness Workbook. I own both and they are brilliant; highly recommend everyone order a copy of both.

Hey, beautiful soul. I hope you are staying warm and cozy. Let me know how your LS is doing in the comments below.

In my last post, I discussed what lichen sclerosus is, why steroids are the gold standard treatment, what version is best, how often you should use them, and the best practice for the application.

But, you might still be wondering:

-What are the main side effects from using steroids to treat lichen sclerosus

-and, if I have any of those side effects, what are my options?

These are fantastic and important questions and I address these in today’s blog post. Treatment is a fundamental piece of getting your symptoms under control and getting into remission. However, many doctors do not discuss treatment options with us, let alone how to use our treatment, and what the benefits and risks are. In today’s post, I review different side effects that *may* accompany steroid use and what you can do if they happen to you.

To read the post, simply click on the link in my bio or DM me saying ‘blog link please’ and I’ll get that to ya ASAP.

Be sure to bookmark that page and discuss your options with your doctor if you’re having difficulties with your steroid; there are many kinds of steroids and options available to you if the first kind you were prescribed doesn’t work for you.

Hey, beautiful soul. Happy Friday!

I hope you are doing well and staying hydrated. If not, this is your reminder to drink some water.

Alright, today’s YouTube video is one that has been highly requested and I am happy to share it is now live on LSSN’s YouTube channel. Building on our seggsual health series, the focus of this video is clitoraal issues and lichen sclerosus. In this video, I touch on loss of sensation due to clitoraal fusing (something many of us with LS have). Further, I share three evidence-based options to help release the fusing and increase sensation (thereby increasing seggsual satisfaction).

Click on the link in my bio to watch the video today! Alternatively, DM me ‘video link please’ and I’ll get that to ya!

Don’t forget to subscribe to LSSN’s channel (which is where I create LS videos) and leave a like on the video so we can show the algorithm that LS information is important.

There’s a lot to digest in this video, but I hope it provides you with a sense of hope!

If ever you are struggling and need extra support, I offer 1:1 LS Peer Support Calls (link in my bio).

Hey, beautiful soul.

Does this sound familiar to you?

“You have lichen sclerosus. It’s considered autoimmune. You are at a slightly higher risk for developing vulvar cancer. There is no cure. Apply your steroids daily”.

When I was diagnosed with LS, that is all the information and guidance I got from my general physician. “Apply your steroids daily” is vague and unhelpful. “How many times a day”, I wondered, “and where and how should I be applying the medication”?

Many of us aren’t given information about our treatment plan when we are diagnosed. Your treatment plan is one of the most fundamental pieces with respect to managing your symptoms, slowing the progression of the disease, getting into remission, and reducing your chances of developing vulvar cancer.

In order to bring more evidence-based information and education to the LS community, I will be doing a treatment series on LSSN’s blog where I review various treatment options and what the science says about them.

For today’s post, I start with ultrapotent topical corticosteroids. It will be a two-parter, so make sure you come back for more! In today’s post, I share what lichen sclerosus is, why steroids are the gold standard treatment, what version is best, how often you should use them, and the best practice for the application. In the next post, I will review different side effects that *may* accompany steroid use and what you can do if they happen to you.
Click on the link in my bio or DM me saying ‘blog link please’.

Let me know how much information you were given about treatment when you were diagnosed in the comment section below.

With love,
Jaclyn
