My first birth was fine, she says.
Not wanting to complain.
Post partum was kinda rough, she admits.
“I just really want a different experience this time”

You deserve it mama.

Don’t apologize. It’s YOUR birth. Your day. You will remember it and tell the story for years to come. Your wonderful amazing midwives/nurses/doctors/doulas will not. Don’t minimize your intentions or desires. Go for it. Build your team. Dream big. Let’s make it happen.

I love a reclaiming the birth experience moment.

I love that realization that comes with - OMG. I really did it.

It’s not about what actually happens. Epidural? C section? Pitocin? Hospital? Home? Not the point. It’s about how supported and empowered and informed you feel throughout.
Did every single wish come true? No. Was it painless? Um, no. But it was exactly the way it was supposed to be.

Surrender. And let the magic happen. 💕

Golden Hour Magic 🌟
Did you know that prioritizing skin to skin with your newborn in the first hour post partum is vital for both of you?
It doesn't JUST feel right, snuggling your baby is backed by heaps of scientific data.

For baby and mama:
🌡️ Regulates body temperature - mama's chest is nature's incubator
🫀 Stabilizes heart rate and breathing - helps babe adjust to life on the outside
🤱🏽 Increases breastfeeding success - stimulates milk production and triggers natural feeding instincts
😴 Improves sleep and reduces stress and crying - calmer baby makes everyone calmer
💪🏼Strengthens immune system - transfers beneficial bacteria for optimal microbiome development
💓 Triggers oxytocin - the love hormone, which helps control uterine bleeding, preventing excessive blood loss and improving blood pressure regulation, not to mention - nature's pain reliever

🌟 My favourite post partum plan (whether you are planning to breastfeed or not) is immediate skin to skin with the birthing parent for a minimum of one Golden Hour. Followed by a quick head to toe check for weighing and measuring baby. Then the non-birthing parent gets to have their skin to skin time, while the one who did all the hard work gets to eat, drink, p*e and generally just come to terms with the enormity of what just happened. And baby just gets to blissfully snuggle in. Go ahead, tell me what could be better. I'll wait 😉 💖

Spoiler alert - birth doesn’t always go as planned. In fact, it rarely does.

In this country, 1 in 3 hospital births results in a Caesarean section. (This number is actually lower with doula support)
