JOGA is an athletic based style of yoga that incorporates a unique blend of postures to find balance in strength and flexibility, a variety of breathing techniques to improve breath control/recovery and relaxation tools to maintain a calm mind in sport and in life. The sessions will leave you feeling stronger, more flexible and re-energized as well as provide you with all the other physiological and psychological benefits of yoga. Athletes are often both results based and achievement oriented people, so they want to feel and see results while also understanding the reasons behind what they are doing. The Joga system is designed in a way to follow the pattern of a fitness regime but still adhere to the sequencing of the traditional yoga session. Each movement has a specific que and a physical or mental benefit associated with it. Joga takes into consideration what athletes require in a training program: structure, challenge and results. The difference between JOGA and yoga is that JOGA was designed for athletes and athletic movements. Traditional yoga involves static long holds, which doesn’t necessarily makes sense for athletic movements. The muscles become overstretched and the neurosystem can’t keep up with the stretch of the muscle, so athletes come out “flat”. JOGA is a movement system that emulates cadence of movements in sports and focuses on dynamic stretching. The goal is not flexibility but balance of strength and flexibility. It’s a system that is designed to be implemented into an athletes training as a compliment to existing training and/or competition. The system involves 4 segments that can be executed all at once and used as a functional workout or individual segments can be used for dynamic warm-ups and/or stretching and relaxation. The movements/postures are the same every time and are infiltrated with bench mark postures so practitioners can test their own results in terms of finding a balance of strength and flexibility. The focus of JOGA is to educate participants about the mechanics of the body, how to move within the body’s limitations, and overall awareness of body intelligence. JOGA has been described as a “pre-rehabilitation and rehabilitation yoga system.” JOGA speaks to the Athletic Body and Athletic Mind. What is the Joga System?
- Joga is a system of movement that is designed to improve athletic ability by educating athletes on how to move kinetically, how to syndicate and integrate core and breath throughout movement patterns, and how to use breath to elicit relaxation and regulate sleep patterns
- The design of the system replicates cadence and biomechanics of movement in sports and showcases where common injuries take place during movement-> Injuries happen in movement, so the long holds that we find in traditional yoga don’t necessarily make sense athletically
- The system is NOT designed to make athletes more flexible, it designed to balance the body in terms of strength and flexibility-> Athletes need to be tight to some degree for their explosive movements and not too flexible so that they come out flat
