Want to learn more about Ontario midwifery? Inspired by questions from their community, a group of Toronto Metropolitan University midwifery students in 2021 created a series of educational videos about Ontario midwifery care to address common myths and misconceptions and honour Black families and midwives.

The Learn More: Ontario Midwifery video series was partially funded and fully supported by the AOM. See the full project here:

Learn More: Ontario Midwifery (LMOM) presents public information about midwifery care in Ontario. This project is inspired by Black communities, birthing people, children, midwives and midwifery students.

Did you know? Midwives provide care to approximately 1 in 5 pregnant people in Ontario, delivering excellent outcomes and high client satisfaction rates.

But access isn’t equal. Only 5% of Ontario’s 133 First Nations communities have midwifery care. Indigenous and northern communities remain drastically underserved.

That needs to change.

The AOM has mapped a clear path forward in our Roadmap to Health System Integration—a bold, evidence-based plan for equitable, sustainable access to midwifery care across the province.

Midwives enhance Ontario's health-care system and are highly valued by Ontarians. With more than 400 000 babies born under midwifery care since 1994, the profession continues to evolve. Midwives need more opportunities for flexible work models to respond to their communities and their own life circumstances. Investing in midwives responds to what Ontarians seek—quality, personalized primary health care in sexual, reproductive, intrapartum and infant care.

The AOM shares the recommendations and actions necessary to sustain Ontario's midwifery in our new Roadmap to Health System Integration report.

As we mark June 21st, we celebrate both the summer solstice and National Indigenous Peoples Day. The longest day of the year holds deep spiritual significance, symbolizing the arrival of warm weather, the beginning of summer, and a new season of life. For generations, this has been a sacred time to be honoured, and today we continue these traditions while celebrating the rich heritage and invaluable contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
