Leisa Bellmore, Shiatsu Therapist

Leisa Bellmore, Shiatsu Therapist Client-centred Shiatsu Therapy tailored to suit the needs of each individual client.

I have been helping people to improve and maintain their health with Shiatsu Therapy since 2001. A firm belief that each of us has the ability and the responsibility to shape our health drives me to encourage clients to take an active role in their health and well being, teaching them self-shiatsu, stretching and other appropriate self-care. I am part of the integrative health team at the Artists' Health Centre at Toronto Western Hospital where my specialized expertise helps performing and visual artists attain their health goals so that they can better create their art. I am also available for private individual treatments and for on-site services to businesses in the downtown area. I regularly present workshops to various audiences and have presented for the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada, the Artists' Health Centre Foundation, Toronto's Ronald McDonald House and the Alzheimer Society.

Our Story

I have been helping people to improve and maintain their health with Namikoshi Shiatsu since 2001. I regularly present workshops and lectures to various audiences and have presented across Canada and internationally. I have presented for the European Shiatsu Congress, Natural Health Practitioners of Canada, International Shiatsu Congress, Australian Association of Massage Therapists, Shiatsu Therapy Association of Australia, American Massage Therapy Association, Providence Healthcare, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Performing Arts Medicine Association, among others.

Research is a passion of mine. I have been a co-investigator on a study published in the Journal of Integrative Medicine in 2014, Hand self-Shiatsu for sleep problems in person with chronic pain: A pilot study, which received a Canadian CAM Research Fund Grant from INCAM. I am a collaborator on a current study, Hand self-Shiatsu for sleep problems in adolescents. I am currently pursuing an MSc in Complementary Medicine Research and completing my thesis on The experience of Shiatsu for care-partners of persons living with dementia: An in-depth qualitative study.

I am a member of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada, INCAM (Interdisciplinary Network for Complementary & Alternative Medicine Research) and ISCMR (International Society for Complementary Medicine Research.
