Spotlight on Ability:
Meet the Oshawa Vikings Mixed Ability Rugby Team — proof that sport is strongest when everyone belongs.

Established in 1959, the Vikings are one of the first rugby clubs in North America accredited by International Mixed Ability Sports, bringing people of all abilities together on the same field, as equal teammates. Their model isn’t about limitation — it’s about talent, teamwork, and potential.

The club continues to lead by example, from welcoming entire families into the sport to opening the first sensory room in a local sporting venue at Thompson Rugby Park.

In June 2025, the Vikings’ men’s and women’s Mixed Ability teams made history representing Canada at the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament in Pamplona, Spain. The women’s team reached the semi-finals, while the men’s team narrowly missed their spot — a remarkable achievement for both teams on the world stage.

This is what inclusion looks like when it’s done right:
different abilities, shared purpose, one team — because ability isn’t limited. It’s unleashed.
