Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. You may have heard that 1:4 pregnancies end in loss but when you are that one it can feel very lonely.

Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage earlier this year at almost 10 weeks of pregnancy. I wanted to share my story incase it helps remind anyone they are not alone as it’s not a topic spoken about a lot.

Forget me not flowers in the background because I will never forget my angel 👼

Even though we never get to hold them in our arms, we get to hold them in our hearts forever 🤍

The key to feeling good with your hormones is to make sure you are addressing the foundations first.

Here comes the hormone hierarchy to help you understand. If you want to think of the hormone cascade as a domino effect.

The first domino (Cortisol/Inuslin): This domino represents your body’s primary stress response and energy regulation. When cortisol if off-balance, it starts a chain reaction.

The second domino (Thyroid Hormones): Thyroid hormones regulate metabolism and energy level, so if cortisol is off, this is the next domino to fall.

The final domino (S*x Hormones): As a lesser priority to the body your body compromises this function to support cortisol instead leading to PMS, irregular cycles, etc.

That is why if you want to make the greatest impact on all symptoms you must work on regulating cortisol and blood sugar levels first. Cortisol, thyroid and s*x hormones are all interconnected and dependent on each other to work properly! If the first domino falls, they all fall.

Celebrating ONE YEAR of my very own virtual clinic ✨

This year really reminded me of how much impact naturopathic medicine can have on bettering people’s lives 😍

There were so many success stories, but here are some of my favourite cases that really stood out.

🌟 Pregnant after 2 years of trying with no success
🌟 Reduced period pain from missing multiple days of work to none in endometriosis patient
🌟 Reduced time to diagnosis for endo patient when normally average diagnosis takes 10 years
🌟 Regular menstrual cycle in patient who had random bleeding all month long
🌟 Improved energy in patient who wanted to optimize their health
🌟 Clear skin in 3 months with patient who couldn’t figure out her acne

If you resonate with any of these, let’s chat.

I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way. Here’s to another year of my virtual clinic helping people like you 😘

One of the main driving factors of is and this is why it responds well to dietary changes.

When we look at those with endo, they have some clear dietary patterns.

✨ Acupuncture point to alleviate menstrual cramps ✨

Meet LI 4 😇

Also known as large intestine 4 💩

This is one of the most commonly used points in acupuncture. It’s used to treat pain literally any where in the body but especially effective for period cramps and migraines.

This point can be found between the thumb and index finger shown above on the bulky part of the muscle. If you apply some pressure on this area, you should feel a dull ache.

It’s a point where we commonly hold a hold of tension. As you apply pressure, you should feel over time the tension release.

You can do this as much as you’d like during “that time of the month” until the pain goes away.

Note - This point should not be used in pregnancy (until labour induction) because of it’s moving nature it can stimulate labour.

Are you curious about acupuncture/pressure?

When asked what makes your mood, energy, sleep and periods worse - most people say STRESS 👎🏻
But when I ask those same people if they are stressed they say, not anymore than anyone else…..
The problem here is ->
⭐️ We are greatly underestimating the impacts of chronic stress
⭐️ If something isn’t necessarily negative, we fail to classify it as stress I.e. when you work a lot but like your job
⭐️ We are normalizing and celebrating a burnout culture
Stress is cumulative over a life time and if not taken seriously can progress further into unwanted symptoms.
This list was put together to help you understand where stress can show up in your life and impact your body outside of just the mental/emotional. We’re you surprised by any?

Sometimes the answer is more simple then you think….
Diet alone will never cure your but it definitely has an impact on your symptoms.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with extreme lifestyle changes, just try this one thing 👆

We need to be doing a better job at and here’s why ->
It takes 10 years to get a diagnosis.
It takes even LONGER on average if the patient is showing up in their teen years.
By the time they are offered a “solution”, there is major mistrust of the medical system AND they spent years and years suffering. Often taking matters into their own hands.
The longer it takes to diagnose, the more damage is caused to the nervous system, and the worse her response will be to available treatment…if it’s accepted.
The longer to diagnose the worse the prognosis.
We are failing our patients.
If you have pelvic pain in any regard please let your health care provider know!

You might want to think twice about soothing PMS with a glass of wine or two....⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Studies show that having 8 drinks per week will increase your odds of having PMS symptoms by 80%. This is especially true if the alcohol is consumed during your luteal phase (i.e. the two weeks prior to your period). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It seems to be that the female brain reacts differently to alcohol depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle and it's worse before your period. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But of course, that's usually the time your partner seems to be extra annoying and cravings take over your will-power.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to avoid feeling worse, you should consider limiting alcohol consumption during the luteal phase and explore other ways of minimizing PMS. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3 more month until my due date! Which means 3 more months of working with you beautiful people on balancing your hormones, riding of menstrual pain, improving egg quality, and reducing stress!
When I meet with new patients, I usually recommend we start off with a 3 month timeline for expected results! Obviously everyone is different but it typically takes around that long for any hormone based concern.
That means there is still time to work with me and make improvements to your hormones before I go on maternity leave!
