Happy Monday ! I recently saw this beautiful patient of mine who was 9 months post upper and lower lid blepharoplasty. I was thrilled with her final results, but interestingly she was not so happy. She was very kind and polite and we both have a lot of respect for each other, but it did prompt me to have a discussion about realistic expectations, as I am seeing more and more patients who are having difficulty with this issue.
I like to share before and after pictures/videos of my patients to educate people on what is possible to treat, how I approach certain problems, but also to show the quality of my work and my overall aesthetic sense. I have a very clear philosophy as to what I am trying to achieve with my patients. The whole point of my extensive consultation is for me to give them my expert and honest opinion.
My goal is to address the concerned areas and do it in a way that is natural and preserves function. My goal is not to make them perfect, or perfectly symmetric, or to erase every single line, every shadow or every imperfection from their face. That would be impossible and unrealistic. Any plastic surgeon who promises perfect results is either dishonest or delusional themselves.
Beauty is not about creating perfection, it’s about creating harmony. It’s also about the confidence we carry despite our perceived imperfections.
So next time you look at yourself in the mirror, be kind to yourself. Take a breath and look at the big picture. You are beautiful.
