Am I losing my mind?
Many women ask me this question when they feel “off”, not quite themselves. They know something has changed but can’t identify what, and their doctors often dismiss their concerns with “there’s nothing wrong with you”.

If this sounds familiar, The Menopause Brain book by Dr. Lisa Mosconi, the best 2024 book about menopause in my opinion, can be helpful.

This book busts myths about menopause, bridging the gap between what’s happening to your body and the information and support you deserve.

It’s important to be aware of what’s going on in your body and mind, physiologically speaking.

Dr. Mosconi explains the menopause transition in clear, relatable language, and offers actionable advice.

This book is a valuable resource to share with your partner, family, friends, and even colleagues, so they can better understand your experience.

Why It Matters

Menopause isn’t just a women’s issue—it affects everyone in your circle. Educating yourself and others fosters understanding and support during this transformative phase of life.

Menopause is inevitable but suffering is not.

Barely used.

I learned to cross-country ski in my 50s. For several reasons, to be outdoors even when it was cold, to improve my balance, for a cardio workout, to ski in places I’ve never been before.

This equipment helped fulfill all those expectations and I hope this great sale awakens in you the willingness to try out, or continue, to XC-ski.

It is in VERY good condition and I’m selling it because with my recent osteoporosis diagnosis I prefer snowshoeing instead of XC skiing.

I celebrated my birthday this week. I was born in 1962 and turned 62 this year.

My birthday gift to you is some tips for navigating menopause that have helped me along the way.

Like you—probably, since you’re reading this—I experienced hot flashes and night sweats (vasomotor symptoms), fatigue, weight gain, very itchy skin, anger, irritability, extreme mood swings, headaches, and vaginal dryness and painful

Since my risk of breast cancer was higher than average, I decided not to take Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) and opted instead for improving my symptoms through lifestyle modifications.

By the way, if you’d like to know your risk for breast cancer and whether you are a good candidate for MHT or not, let’s talk - DM for more info.

THIS is very personal to me since one of my closest friends was diagnosed with colon cancer in her 40s. She advocated for her health and for a colonoscopy and probably saved her own life while told she had hemorrhoids.

Rapper, actor, and activist Bishop Brigante is 45-year-old and is battling Stage 4 colon cancer, which he says was caught too late. That's because for two years of SHOWING SYMPTOMS no one tested him for colon cancer. "You're too young to have colon cancer"... Wrong.

Bishop wants Canadians to have easier access to colonoscopies and says advocacy has given him newfound purpose.

Please sign this petition and let's ensure Canadians with colon cancer can live longer and better.

Unfortunately, there’s not much data on menopause among African-American women and other minority groups.

It’s widely recognized that women, in general, have been neglected in research and healthcare, and this is especially true for menopausal women.

Black women experiencing menopause have been particularly neglected.

A recent scientific review, based on 25 years of research, found that Black women typically reach menopause about 8.5 months earlier than White women and suffer from more severe symptoms like hot flashes, depression, and sleep problems. Despite this, they are less likely to receive hormone therapy and other medical or mental health services than White women are.

Structural racism, which affects access to resources and opportunities, is believed to be a major factor in these disparities and even in symptoms experienced by women. Additionally, Black women may be less likely to report their symptoms or to acknowledge their effects on daily life. And there’s a tendency among Black women to normalize or downplay their menopausal symptoms, even when they significantly affect their well-being. 📢For more resources on communities talking about the experience of Black women in menopause, check out these Instagram accounts:

Many women reach perimenopause and feel like their life has changed overnight. What’s worse many think they are the only ones going through this humongous change and feel isolated and lone.

No one prepared you for midlife hormonal changes.

The silence, secrecy, and shame surrounding menopause leave you unprepared for what is going on physically, mentally, and emotionally in midlife.

Navigating menopause can feel overwhelming.

Do you struggle to figure out where to start?

Is conflicting information confusing?

Are you seeing an impact on your health, looks, relationships? On your family?

In a survey involving 2,000 working women in the United States and the United Kingdom who are either in perimenopause or menopause, 80% of respondents reported that they find it challenging to manage their symptoms while at work.

Additionally, nearly three-quarters of those surveyed (72%) expressed feeling uncomfortable or self-conscious at work when they experience symptoms such as brain fog.

Notably, about one-third of the women, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, harbour concerns about how their menopause symptoms could hinder their career advancement. Tammy Sun, the CEO and founder of Carrot Fertility, emphasized the evidence of an inequitable burden placed on individuals during their post-reproductive phases, underscoring the disparities.

Beyond grappling with unpredictable symptoms, older women in the workforce often do not feel adequately supported by their employers. A significant portion of women surveyed who had to take time off from work due to menopause-related issues chose not to disclose the reasons for their absence to their employers on numerous occasions.

The survey revealed that the primary reasons women refrain from seeking support for managing menopause at work include concerns about their perceived inability to perform at their usual level, the stigma surrounding the topic, and uncertainty about finding appropriate sources of assistance.

Experts contend that these factors contribute to a broader crisis of confidence for women typically at the zenith of their careers. This crisis could be mitigated by shifting the prevailing narratives about aging.

The survey also illuminated the role of ageism as a significant driver behind the silence surrounding menopause within the workplace. Alarmingly, almost half of the women surveyed (47%) reported facing age-based discrimination at work. Older employees who experience such discrimination may feel compelled to exert additional effort to prove their worth and job security.
