She is someone's mum. And someone else's daughter. And somehow she is holding both.

Happy Mother's Day to every woman across Toronto and the GTA who is celebrating today while also caregiving. The adult daughters who drove to an appointment this week and still made dinner for their own kids. Who sat with a parent through something hard and then went home to be fully present for their own family.

To every woman carrying both roles today: you are extraordinary. And you deserve support too. 💚

I had a good day. And then I felt terrible about it.

This is one of the quietest and most common experiences in family caregiving, and almost nobody talks about it. The guilt of enjoying yourself when someone you love is unwell. The shame of a good afternoon. The sense that feeling okay means you do not love them enough.

You do. And you are allowed to have a life too.

For every family caregiver in Toronto and the GTA carrying this quietly: this one is for you. 💚

Most families think a caregiver comes to help with the tasks. The tasks are just where it starts.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to name what caregivers actually do every single day across Toronto and the GTA. The noticing. The trust-building. The emotional presence. The communication that keeps families informed even when they cannot be there themselves.

This is also the kind of whole-person care that works alongside physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and other health supports — not in isolation from them.

She does more now with a caregiver than she was doing alone. That surprised all of us.

One of the most common misconceptions about home care is that bringing in support means giving something up. For most seniors across Toronto and the GTA, the opposite is true. The right care, delivered the right way, creates the conditions for more independence, not less.

Swipe through. Save this one for someone who needs to hear it. 💚

We waited eight months longer than we should have. I do not regret much. I regret that.

Almost every family we speak with across Toronto and the GTA says some version of this. They wish they had started the conversation earlier. Not because the care itself was not good, but because the months before it were harder than they needed to be.

If you are in that in-between space right now, this one is for you. 💚

I was so focused on taking care of her that I forgot I was falling apart too.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. And for family caregivers across Toronto and the GTA, mental health is one of the most overlooked parts of the caregiving journey.

The anxiety at 3am. The grief of watching someone you love slowly change. The anger you feel and then immediately feel ashamed of. These are not signs that you are doing something wrong. They are signs that you have been carrying something heavy for a very long time without enough support.

You were never supposed to do this alone. 💚

We forgot to tell her he does not like his eggs scrambled. That was day one.

The first visit is never perfect. But a little preparation makes a significant difference, not just for the logistics, but for how quickly trust builds between a caregiver and the person they are supporting.

For families in Toronto and the GTA preparing for their first visit, this Reel walks through the things worth having ready. Save it for when you need it. 💚

You did not sign up for this. But you showed up anyway.

April is almost done. And if you have been showing up for someone you love this month, quietly, consistently, imperfectly, that counts more than most people will ever know.

To every family in Toronto and the GTA doing this work: you are seen. 💚

I was not looking for a care plan. I was just trying to survive the week.

That is where most families start. Not with a formal decision, but with exhaustion. And it is only later, sometimes much later, that they realise they were not just tired. They needed more than a break.

For family caregivers in Toronto and the GTA, understanding that difference is often the first step toward getting the right kind of help.

Swipe through. And if this one resonates, save it or share it with a family who might need to hear it. 💚
